Bethune-Cookman Defeats North Carolina Central, 10-2DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Shamaria Engram and Kelsey Rodney each homered and drove in three RBI as Bethune-Cookman (15-21,1-0) downed North Carolina Central (3-29,0-1) 10-2 in a MEAC Southern Division game Saturday at Sunnyland Park.
Game two was called due to lightning. The three-game series will be completed with a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. Sunday.
B-CU scored in all five innings to register the run-rule decision. Engram's homer was a two-run shot in the second while Rodney went yard in the fourth to start a five-run Wildcat rally.
Leadoff hitter Calesha Shelley went 4-4 with three runs scored, and ended the game by manufacturing the final run in the fifth. The freshman beat out an infield hit, stole second and scored when Michelle Banuelos-Smith reached on error.
Banuelos-Smith was 2-4 with two RBI for the Wildcats, who saw all nine batters reach base and eight register a hit. Shanel Tolbert picked up the victory with a two-hitter.

CSU's Arnold Tosses No-Hitter in Sweep of UMES
BALTIMORE -- Senior Paige Arnold fired a no-hitter against Maryland Eastern Shore leading Coppin State to a sweep of its MEAC doubleheader on Saturday at the Coppin State Softball Field.
Arnold no hit the Hawks in game one as the Eagles won 5-0, and Coppin State won game two 5-1.
Arnold was dominant in the opener as she allowed only a first-inning walk and struck out 11 batters in tossing her third career no-hitter.
She came back in the second game and allowed only two hits in four innings of work, while striking out six batters. In the two games combined, she allowed just two hits in 11 innings and struck out 17 batters.
Arnold and Samantha Delinger had two RBI in game one, while Emily DeJesus and Heather Josker each went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI in game two.
Coppin State (11-14, 4-1 MEAC) didn't get to Maryland Eastern Shore starter Carmen Gurrola until the fourth inning of the first game.
DeJesus doubled to left center to open the inning and advanced to third on a passed ball. Josker followed with a walk and Arnold scored both runners with a double to left center giving the Eagles a 2-0 lead.
Arnold moved to third base on a passed ball and scored when Denlinger lifted a sacrifice fly to center extending the CSU lead to 3-0.
With two outs, Tiffani Whaley doubled and came in to score when Nicole Boggs singled through the left side for a 4-0 Coppin State lead.
The Eagles tacked on a run in the bottom of the sixth inning when Arnold reached on an error and scored on a Denlinger double.
Coppin State took an early lead in game two against the Hawks.
DeJesus tripled to lead off the inning and scored when Josker followed with a base hit to left to give CSU a 1-0 lead.
After Arnold reached on a fielder's choice, Taylor Kairos reached on an error that allowed Arnold to come all the way around to score increasing the Eagle lead to 2-0.
Coppin State pushed the lead to 3-0 when Josker led off the third inning with a triple and scored on a base hit by Denlinger.
The Eagles scored another run in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Arnold hit a one-out to double and scored when Kairos ripped a single to left to increase the margin to 4-0.
Maryland Eastern Shore (0-21, 0-5 MEAC) scored an unearned run in the top of the sixth inning, but Coppin State answered in the bottom half of the inning.
Nicole Boggs singled to right to start the inning and moved to second on a base hit by Patrice Williams. DeJesus plated Boggs with a single to center giving Coppin State a 5-1 lead.

Meagley Strikes Out Nine In 5-0 Win Over Hampton
DOVER, Del. - Sophomore Rachel Meagley continues to impress in her first season with Delaware State as she struck out a career-high nine strikeouts to lead the Hornets to their first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference victory of the season in a 5-0 win over Hampton Saturday afternoon at the Hornets' Nest.
In addition to nine strikeouts, Meagley allowed just four hits and held a perfect game through the first two and two-thirds innings as she struck out the first seven batters and forced a pop up before senior Brooke Boykin singled back to the pitcher. Meagley got out of the inning by striking out the next batter.
Del State (11-11-1; 1-0 MEAC) got on the board in the fourth inning as senior Tawny Reeger doubled to right center to lead off the inning and fellow senior Casey Beighley followed up with a two-run home run to left field. Freshman Bria Green then singled through the left side and advanced to second on a passed ball with senior Rachel Carroll at bat. Carroll continued the onslaught with an RBI double to right field to score Green.
Carroll moved to third on a groundout from freshman Kelsey Doherty (Harbeson, Del.) and eventually scored the fourth run of the game for the Hornets on a wild pitch from Hampton freshman Jailynn Jackson before the end of the inning.
With the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth, Green singled to third base as sophomore Stephanie Martello scored to give DSU a 5-0 lead. The Hornets had the opportunity to end the game in the fifth via the mercy-rule, but recorded three straight outs to leave three runners stranded.
The Lady Pirates (13-21; 2-2 MEAC) posed a threat in the top of the seventh inning as junior Carla Trimble walked to lead off the frame. Sophomore Margaret Wilkins reached on an error by Carroll, the shortstop, before junior Nina Ferguson walked to load the bases.
Beighley and Green led the Hornets from the plate, each going 2-for-3 on the day.

Savannah State Edges Lady Rattlers, 2-0
SAVANNAH, Ga. (March 31) - Maddison Hedderly gave up five hits and did not allow a run as Savannah State pulled out a 2-0 win over Florida A&M Saturday evening at Tiger Field.
SSU (12-18, 1-0) was led by Jamie Paolini as she went a perfect three-for-three from the plate as the Lady Tigers finished with a game high six hits.
FAMU (14-21, 0-1 MEAC) was led by Tenisha Dixon as she went two-for-two from the plate as the Lady Rattlers finished with five hits.
Hedderly (9-9)picked up the win for SSU as she went the distance, striking out four in seven inning on the mound, while Whitney Robinson(6-9) received the loss for the Lady Rattlers as she gave up four hits, and one earned run in three innings on the mound.
The Lady Tigers scored their two runs as Amber Hallman scored on a Paolini double in the bottom of the first inning. Then Tiffany Davies would single to left field scoring Arion Hagood, for the 2-0 finale in the bottom of the sixth inning.
