MEAC ANNOUNCES SOFTBALL WEEKLY HONORS

North Carolina A&T sophomore Detavia Kenan earned Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week honors in softball, the conference announced on Monday. Shanel Tolbert of Bethune-Cookman was named the Pitcher of the Week, while Hampton's Jailynn Jackson earned Rookie of the Week accolades.

Kenan (OF, 5-7, So., Raleigh, N.C.) hit .750 in eight appearances with two homeruns, a triple and six RBI to aid the Lady Aggies to a 2-1 mark last week.  Against Maryland Eastern Shore, Kenan was a  perfect 4-of-4  and hit a three-run homerun to guide North Carolina A&T past UMES 11-5. 

Tolbert (P, 5-6, So., Los Angeles, Calif.) posted a 4-0 record with two shutouts last week for Bethune-Cookman. The sophomore had a 0.80 ERA with 14 strikeouts in 26.0 innings. Against Hartford, Tolbert struck out a season-high seven batters, while allowing three hits and one earned run.

Jackson (P, 5-8, Fr., Virginia Beach, Va.) batted .615 (8-of-13) with three doubles and a RBI in four Lady Pirate games last week. The rookie tallied three hits and three runs in an 8-6 win over Morgan State.  The pitcher also tallied a 2.18 ERA and struck out 16 of 92 batters in 20.2 innings last week.

Other Top Performers:

Paige Arnold (CSU) posted a 3-2 record in five appearances with a 1.93 ERA. She allowed nine runs and 12 walks and struck out 25 of 135 batters in 29 innings.

Casey Beighley (DSU) hit .400 with one triple and three RBI and pitched 11.1 innings striking out seven of 48 batters.

Cember Carmichael (NCCU) recorded two home runs, one double and seven RBI in two non-conference wins against Maryland Eastern Shore.

Shareday Christina (MSU) was 5-of-11 (.454) with 12 putouts in three games against Hampton.

Jasmin Donaldson (FAMU) hit .750 with an RBI and a run in a loss to Mercer.

Aurelia Gamch (B-CU) batted .455 with five hits and four runs in four games last week for the Lady Wildcats.

Vianney Gomez (SCSU) recorded two non-conference wins over Maryland Eastern Shore with a 1.55 ERA and three strikeouts in 9.0 innings.

Bria Green (DSU) hit her first career home run and was 3-of-3 in a win against Cornell.

Amber Hallman (SSU) posted one double and was 1-of-3 in a 4-2 loss to Charleston Southern.

Shine Huwe (HAM) hit .500 in five games with one homerun and six RBI to aid the Lady Pirates to a 2-3 mark last week.

Mikala Johnson (SCSU) batted .500 (2-of-40 in a 7-3 non-conference win over Maryland Eastern Shore.

Morgan King (UMES) was 3-of-4 (.750) with one home run in a loss to North Carolina Central. 

Arzine Lee (SCSU) was 3-for-6 with two runs and two RBI in two games for the Lady Bulldogs.

Deanna Matlock (MSU) hit .750 with a double and a run in a 6-2 win over Hampton.

Bianka Molina (NCCU) earned a 1.00 ERA with one walk and nine strikeouts in a non-conference win over Maryland Eastern Shore.

Alina Moriarty (NSU) was 1-for-3 with a homerun in a 2-1 victory over Coppin State

Liz Riley (NSU) led the Spartans to a 2-1 win over Coppin State with a 1.00 ERA and two strikeouts.

Jordan Reid (DSU) hit .467 with one double and an RBI to aid the Lady Hornets to a 4-0-1 mark last week.

Karina Romero (B-CU) was 3-of-9 (.333) with two doubles and two RBI in four Lady Wildcat victories.
