MEAC ANNOUNCES TENNIS WEEKLY HONORS

Coppin State's Oleksiy Krylchuk and Norfolk State’s Naeemah Brooks were chosen as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men's and Women's Tennis Athletes of the Week the conference announced on Thursday. Norfolk State’s Igor Braga and Delaware State’s Vanja Andonova received Men's and Women's Rookie of the Week accolades.

Krylchuk (Fr., Sevastopol, Ukraine) posted a 5-0 record at the No. 1 singles position with wins over Maryland Eastern Shore, Hartford, Robert Morris, and Howard. The freshman was also 3-1 in doubles play. His victory over Howard’s Devard Wharton (6-1, 6-3) guided the Eagles to their first ever victory against the Bison.

Brooks (Sr.,Galloway, N.J.) won in straight sets in the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions over Maryland Eastern Shore’s Solana McMillian (6-2, 6-0) and Shamara McKenzie (6-0, 6-0) respectively. In doubles play the senior and teammate Rebecca Graff defeated McMillian and McKenzie 8-1.

Braga (Fr., Brasilia, Brazil) went 2-0 in singles play with wins over Kenneth Greene of Hampton (6-4, 6-1) and Maryland Eastern Shore’s Wirlen Elame (6-0, 6-0) at the number three singles position.

Andonova (Fr., Skopje, Macadonia) finished the week with a singles victory over Jennifer Mitchell of Coppin State (6-0, 6-0). The freshman has won eight straight singles matches and seven straight in doubles play this season.

Other Top Performances:

Margarita Belyakova (MSU) topped Solana McMillan of Maryland Eastern Shore (6-1, 6-3) in the No. 1 singles position.

Maria Cracium (SCSU) went 2-0 in singles play with victories against North Carolina A&T and North Carolina Central.

Arsenio Culver (NSU) won in singles play against Hampton’s Alvin Fudd (6-2, 6-1) and Malcolm Johnson of Maryland Eastern Shore (6-0, 6-0) in straight sets.

Laura Gutierrez (NSU) defeated Shamara McKenzie (6-0, 6-0) and Solana McMillan (6-2, 6-2) of Maryland Eastern Shore in singles play respectively.

Victoria Khateci (SCSU) won at the No. 5 singles position with straight set wins against North Carolina Central and North Carolina A&T.

Djorde Lubinkovic (MSU) defeated Morgan State’s Livi Costica (6-2, 6-0) at the No. 2 singles position and held on for a three set win against Navy (7-5, 0-6, 11-9)

Stacy Speller (B-CU) finished the week winning all four singles matches in straight sets and went 3-1 in doubles play. She lost 8-4 against Northern Illinois.

Duk Young-Park (MSU) went 1-1 for the week in singles play with a win over Malcolm Johnson of Maryland Eastern Shore (6-0, 6-0)
