MEAC Announces Softball Weekly Honors

Hampton senior Brooke Boykin earned Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week honors in softball, the conference announced on Monday. Teammate Travonna Bryd was named the Pitcher of the Week, while Bethune-Cookman's Karina Romero earned Rookie of the Week accolades for the second straight week.

Boykin (C/SS, 5-10, Sr., Riverside, Calif.) hit .500 in 18 appearances with five hits, two triples, one doubles and five RBI to aid the Lady Pirates to a 5-1 mark last week. The catcher who also spent time as a shortstop last week tallied three assists and 24 putouts defensively.

Bryd (P/UT, 5-8, Sr., Newport News, Va.) recorded a 3-0 record in four appearances at the mound with a 0.97 ERA last week. The senior pitched a combined 21.2 innings allowing 13 hits and walking nine. She also struck out 19 of 94 batters while holding the four teams to six runs.

Romero (1B, 5-7, Fr., Cathedral City, Calif.) was 4-of-10 (.400) with three RBI in four Lady Wildcat wins last week. The first baseman stole one base and recorded 38 putouts and two assists in the defensive effort.

Other Top Performers:

Paige Arnold (CSU) was 12-for-16 with one home run and four RBI in six games for the Lady Eagles.

Casey Beighley (DSU) walked four and struck out nine of 46 batters in four games for the Lady Hornets.


Michelle Banuelos-Smith (B-CU) hit .417 (5-of-12) with one home run, one double and four RBI.

Alina Moriarty (NSU) hit .385 in eight games with one double and five RBI.

Jordan Reid (DSU)
was 2-of-3 (.667) with four putouts in a 5-4 win against St. Joseph's.

Whitney Robinson (FAMU) recorded an ERA of 1.29 with eight strikeouts in 16.2 innings for the Lady Rattlers.

Liz Riley (NSU) was 3-4 last week with a 1.09 ERA during 25.2 innings.

Shanel Tolbert (B-CU) had a 0.54 ERA in four games and recorded her first career shut-out in a 3-0 victory against Alcorn State last week.
