MEAC Completes Day One of Bowling Championship

The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) completed the first day of the 2012 MEAC Bowling Championship at Gate City Lanes in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The eight-team field competed in traditional team games and Baker games to determine seeding for the tournament.

Delaware State earned the top seed heading into tomorrow's action with a 7-2 mark and 7,898 pinfall. The Lady Hornets tallied 4,086 in Baker play during day one's action and will face No.8 Florida A&M in match one.

The defending MEAC and NCAA national champion Maryland Eastern Shore Lady Hakws captured the second seed with a 7-2 mark and 7,796 total pinfall, including 3,845 in Baker play. The Lady Hawks will meet No. 7 North Carolina Central in match three.

Morgan State, the third seed, is followed by Norfolk State in fourth and Hampton in fifth. Bethune-Cookman , North Carolina Central and Florida A&M earned the sixth through eighth seeds, respectively.

The No. 4 Norfolk State Spartans will take on the No. 5 Hampton Lady Pirates while the No. 3 Morgan State Bears will face No. 6 Bethune-Cookman in matches two and four, respectively.

The matches will begin tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. with teams competing in a best-of-seven Baker series.

The MEAC bowling championship wraps up on Sunday at 10 a.m. beginning with the semifinal round and concluding with the championship final at 11:45 a.m. The championship match will be televised in a tape-delayed format and will air on ESPNU on March 26 at 10 p.m.

Admission to the bowling championship is free and open to the public.
