MEAC ANNOUNCES SOFTBALL WEEKLY HONORS

Norfolk State junior Gipsy Ramirez earned Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week honors in softball, the conference announced on Wednesday. Savannah State’s Madison Hedderly was named the Pitcher of the Week, while Norfolk State’s Liz Riley earned Rookie of the Week accolades.

Ramirez (2B, 5-6, Jr., LaVerne, Calif.) batted .636 in 11 appearances with seven hits, two doubles and four RBI in four games for the Spartans. The second baseman tallied six putouts and nine assists defensively.

Hedderly (P, 5-10, Jr., Dublin, Ohio) tallied a 2-1 record and a 2.37 ERA last week with non-conference victories against Norfolk State and Maryland Eastern Shore. The junior pitched a combined 19.0 innings striking out 21 of the 80 batters faced. Against Maryland Eastern Shore, she recorded a 1.80 ERA, striking out nine and allowing just one walk.

Riley (P, 5-7, Fr., Virginia Beach, Va.) was 2-0 last week with a 1.17 ERA with non-conference wins over Savannah State and South Carolina State. She pitched 12.0 innings while walking three and striking out five of the 55 batters she faced.  Against Savannah State, she recorded a 0.00 ERA allowing eight hits, no runs and no earned runs.

Other Top Performers:

Emily DeJesus (CSU) hit .500 and was 5-of-10 with two runs and two RBI in four games for the Lady Eagles.

Kelsey Doherty (DSU) posted three doubles and two RBI for the Lady Hornets last week.

Morgan Chappell (NCAT) recorded two RBI, one home run and one double while hitting .333 from the plate for the Lady Aggies.

Sarah Kaiser (NCCU) tallied 25 putouts defensively along with four hits and one RBI in the offensive effort for the Lady Eagles. 

Morgan King (UMES) hit .545 with four doubles and six RBI in 11 appearances for the Lady Hawks.

India Morgan (SSU) hit .500 (2-of-4) with two doubles and two RBI in a 10-1 victory against Maryland Eastern Shore.

Jamie Paolini (SSU) tallied one home run and four RBI in three games for the Lady Tigers.

Jordan Reid (DSU) totaled one home run and two RBI in eight Lady Hornet games. 

Stephanie Sarris (DSU) pitched 16.0 innings last week, striking out nine and walking five of the 69 batters she faced.
