Hornets Sweep Four Matches On Southern Swing
DOVER, Del. ---
The Delaware State University women's tennis team is now 5-2 this season after
sweeping four matches during a southern swing last week.
The Hornets, winners of five
straight matches, began the trip with a 6-1 victory over North Carolina
Wesleyan. Marina Sicic (No. 3) and Vanja Andonova (No. 4) led the way with 6-0,
6-0 singles wins. DSU's Ksenia Kozlova was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at No. 1, while
No. 2 Kristina Aleksic (6-3, 6-4) and
No. 6 Christina Andrade (6-2, 6-1) also posted straight set victories.
Delaware State won all three
doubles matches, with Aleksic and Andonova teaming for an 8-0 victory at No. 2.
Sicic and Andrade were 8-1 winners at No. 1, while Maja Banas and Kozlova
completed the doubles sweep with an 8-3 triumph at No. 3.
Andrade and Sicic also
teamed up for an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles. Andonova and Aleksic were 8-4
victors at No. 2 doubles, while Kozlova and Banas posted an 8-4 victory at No.
3.
Andonova (No. 4), Banas (No.
5) and Andrade (No. 6) were straight set winners in singles competition during
the match.
Andrade and Andonova posted
an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles, while Sicic and Aleksic outdueled their opponents
8-5 at No. 2.
Delaware State claimed five
of six singles contests to earn the win. Andrade won her fifth straight match
with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 5. Banas was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 6, while
Andonova (No. 4), Sicic (No. 3) and Aleksic (No. 2) also posted straight set
victories in singles play.
