NORFOLK, Va. - Norfolk State has earned the No. 15 seed in the West Region and will face No. 2 seed Missouri in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday in Omaha, Neb.
The game will be televised live on TNT and will tip-off at approximately 4:40 p.m. ET (3:30 p.m. CT), or 30 minutes following the conclusion of the Florida-Virginia game that tips off at 2:10 p.m. (1:10 p.m. CT).
NSU (25-9) won its first-ever Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament championship title on Saturday with a 73-70 win over Bethune-Cookman. The Spartans are making their first-ever NCAA Division I Basketball Tournament appearance since moving up to Division I during the 1997-98 school year.
Missouri (30-4) won the Big 12 Tournament championship with a 90-75 win over Baylor on Saturday. The Tigers are led All-Big 12 selection Marcus Denmon who leads the team in scoring, averaging 17.6 points per game. Senior Guard Kim English averages 14.9 points and 4.2 rebounds a game, while senior forward and Hampton, Va. native Ricardo Ratliffe is the team's leading rebounder, grabbing 7.5 boards per contest.
"We're excited to be playing Missouri in our first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance," NSU head coach Anthony Evans said. "They represent a big challenge for us, but one we will embrace. We hope to represent NSU and the MEAC well."
