Hornets Get By Ospreys In Pitcher?s Duel

Delaware State split a doubleheader Saturday afternoon as they defeated the University of North Florida, 1-0, in a pitcher's duel before falling, 6-1, to Kansas on Day Two of the Osprey Invitational at the UNF Softball Complex.

In the first game, the Ospreys and Hornets combined for a total of five hits and one run.

The two teams played through five scoreless innings before Delaware State (4-7) posted the lone run of the game in the top of the sixth inning.

Beighley (2-2) earned the win for the Hornets as she pitched 5.1 solid innings, giving up just one hit and one walk with two strikeouts.  Sarris pitched 1.2 innings strong with three strikeouts, two hits and three walks.

Wallace (5-3) took the loss for North Florida, giving up one unearned run and two hits with two strikeouts in 5.1 innings.

In the last game of the day, Kansas used a season-best 11 strikeouts from junior starter Morgan Druhan to finish a season sweep of Delaware State with a 6-1 victory.

The Jayhawks (19-2) broke the program's longest win streak in the previous game on Saturday (a 1-0 victory over UNF) and was able to extend it to 19-straight wins as Kansas picked up their third win in two days against Delaware State (4-8).

Freshman Bria Green took the loss for Delaware State, her first of the season.  Green gave up eight hits, six runs (all earned) and six walks in 6.0 frames.

Kansas' Druhan (6-0) earned the win, striking out 11 while giving up just two hits and two walks in 7.0 innings pitched.

Junior Maggie Hull went 3-for-4 with one run scored for the Jayhawks.
