SC State Tennis Teams Open Season With Victories

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—The South Carolina State men’s and women’s tennis teams open up the 2011 spring season with victories over Jacksonville University Saturday at Keith Watson Family Tennis Complex.

On the men’s side, the Bulldogs (1-0) won in a 5-2 decision over the Dolphins (0-2). Kovalevych/Protsenko def. Fantova/Martinez 9-7, and Lee/Bizon def. Hansen n/Condez, 8-6 for the doubles point.

In singles play at the No. 1 spot senior Dmytro Kovalevych def. Banos-Lopez (6-2, 6-2), No. 2 sophomore Anton Protsenko def. Fantova (6-2, 6-3), while at the No.3 junior Peter Vingradous def. Condez (3-6, 6-0, 6-3).

The women dominated winning 6-1 over the Lady Dolphins of Jacksonville University (1-2) on the day. Senior Suhaila Jad def. Staudt (6-4, 6-2) at the No.1 spot for the Lady Bulldogs (1-0). At the No. 2 spot,  Maria Craciun def. Melibeu (6-3, 6-2) and No. 3 spot AKilah James defeated Bartos 6-1 and 6-2.
