MEAC Announces Women's Basketball Weekly Honors

Florida A&M's Qiana Donald was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday. North Carolina A&T's Tiffanie Adair earned Rookie of the Week honors, while Norfolk State's Rachel Gordon earned Defensive Player of the Week accolades.

Donald (Forward/Center, 6-0, Sr., Jacksonville, Fla.) recorded a double-double of 23 points and 11 rebounds in a 102-66 victory against North Carolina Central. She shot 90-percent from the floor (9-of-10), was perfect from 3-point range (1-of-1) and 80-percent from the free-throw line (4-of-5). Donald added three assists and three steals in the victory.

Adair (Forward, 5-11, So., Duncan, S.C.) averaged 14.0 points and 9.0 rebounds to aid the Lady Aggies to victories against Delaware State and Bethune-Cookman last week. Against DSU, Adair tallied a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds. She followed that performance with nine points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals in an overtime win against B-CU.

Gordon (Forward, 6-0, So., Woodbridge, Va.) pulled down 28 rebounds along with one block and two steals in two games for the Spartans. Against Coppin State, she grabbed 21 rebounds and stole one pass. Offensively, Gordon added 18 points and two assists, while shooting 70-percent from the floor (7-of-10).

Adobi Agbasi (UMES) combined for 16 points, 13 rebounds and nine blocks to aid the Lady Hawks to a 1-1 mark.

Paris Alston (SCSU) scored 11 points, seven rebounds and two steals in a win over Savannah State.

Antonia Bennett (FAMU) totaled 26 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, tallied one block and six steals in a win over North Carolina Central.

JaQuayla Berry (NCAT) led her team with 17 points and 10 rebounds in an overtime victory against Bethune-Cookman.

Tasia Bristow (DSU) tallied a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds against North Carolina A&T.

Cheynne Curley-Payne (Howard) combined for 24 points, 12 assists and eight rebounds in two wins for the Lady Bison.

Saadia Doyle (Howard) averaged 15.5 points and 11.0 rebounds in two games.

Tracey Flowers (SCSU) totaled 21 points, 14 rebounds and dished out three assists to aid the Lady Bulldogs to a 1-1 record last week. 

Demetria Frank (B-CU) scored 19 points, four rebounds, and three assists against North Carolina A&T.

Tierra Hawkins (DSU) averaged 13.0 points and 6.5 rebounds in two games last week.

Whitney Long (NSU) scored 17 points, which included her 1,000th career point, against Delaware State.

Shawntae Payne (CSU) combined for 35 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds in two Lady Eagle wins.

Chelsea Sanders (UMES) averaged 18.0 points and 7.0 rebounds in two games for the Lady Hawks.


Melanie Warner (Hampton) posted 20 points on 7-of-12 from the floor in a win over Morgan State.
