Coppin State Softball Sweeps South Carolina State

 
ORANGEBURG, S.C. -- Candice Van Horn homered and drove in four runs in game one, and Paige Arnold homered and drove in two runs in game two leading Coppin State to a doubleheader sweep of South Carolina State on Sunday at Lady Bulldog Field.

The Eagles won the opener 11-2 and then captured the second game 5-3 to complete the sweep.

Coppin State (3-1) had 15 hits in the opening game and then Tiffani Whaley and Arnold limited South Carolina State to just six hits in the second game.

Van Horn led the way for Coppin State with a pair of hits, including a three-run home run. Emily DeJesus, Samantha Denlinger, Whlaey, Arnold and Heather Josker each had two hits for the Eagles.

Whaley picked up her first win of the season in the second game as she allowed only one earned run in 5.1 innings and struck out four batters. Arnold notched her first save of the season by pitching 1.2 innings of perfect relief.

Arnold had two hits, including a two-run homer, to pace the offensive attack in the second game. DeJesus and Kira Gleason also had RBI for the Eagles.
