Spartans and Hawks Climb in NTCA Media Poll

Hawks Climb One Spot in Latest NTCA Media Poll

PRINCESS ANNE, Md.-After falling to fifth in the latest National Tenpins Coaches Association (NTCA) Coaches' poll, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) felt like they should have been ranked higher by the coaches.  They cannot say the same however for the media, as the latest NTCA media poll has UMES moving up one spot from sixth, to fifth place.  That ranking means that the Hawks are a solid fifth in both polls.

In just the second installment of the poll, the Hawks climbed one spot and sport a 71-26 overall record.  They totaled 326 points, comfortably ahead of sixth place Central Missouri (310) and 16 points out of fourth, trailing Arkansas State with 342 points.

Just like the coaches' poll, Fairleigh Dickinson sits atop the list.  In the media poll FDU amassed 448 points and 15 of the 16 first place votes.  Opposite of the coaches' poll however is Valparaiso and Sacred Heart.  The media poll lists the Crusaders in second with one first place vote with the Pioneers in third.  They tallied 382 and 368 points respectively.

Vanderbilt, Nebraska, Sam Houston State and Stephen F. Austin rounded out the top ten.

Spartans Now 12th in NTCA Media Poll

NORFOLK, Va. - The Norfolk State bowling team moved up to 12th in the latest National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) media top-20 poll released this week, up two spots from 14th in last month's inaugural poll.

NSU garnered 124 points to finish ahead of No. 13 Kutztown and No. 14 Delaware State but behind No. 11 New Jersey City. The media poll is voted on by sports information directors and various media members. The Spartans are currently ranked 11th in the latest NTCA coaches poll released last week as well.

NSU owns a 78-34 overall record, shattering their previous school record for wins in a season that had stood at 67. The Spartans also carry a 16-4 mark in conference play, four games ahead of second-place Bethune-Cookman and Florida A&M in the MEAC Southern Division standings. The team will aim for its third division title in four years at the last Southern Divisional March 3-4 in Daytona Beach, Fla.
