TALLAHASSEE, Fla.-
The Florida A&M Softball team split a twin bill with the University of
North Florida in their home opener with FAMU winning game one 2-1 and UNF
winning game two 8-2.
In the first game, FAMU
(2-5) tallied four hits as Tera Gainer collected a game-high three hits to lead
the Lady Rattlers, while UNF (5-2) garnered five hits with five Ospreys finishing
with one hit each.
Jennifer Lindsey (2-1)
picked up her second win of the season as she gave up five hits, one run and
struck out three in seven innings of work.
Ashley Brown (1-1) received
the loss UNF as she went three and one-third innings giving up three hits, two
earned runs while striking out three. Kayla Goff pitched two and two-thirds
scoreless innings for UNF, striking out four Lady Rattlers.
UNF scored their lone run in
the top of the first as Brittany Hendrix scored on a Kaley Broski ground out to
second.
FAMU would push across two
runs in their half of the third on Kieifi Myrick doubled, scoring both Whitney
Robinson and Tera Gainer, giving the Lady Rattlers a 2-1 win.
In game two, the Lady
Rattler collected five hits as Myrick finished with a game-high three hits,
while UNF finished with 12 as Hendrix tallied a team-high two hits to lead the
Ospreys.
Kaylie Wallace (3-0) picked
up the win for UNF as she gave up four hits, one earned run and struck out
three in three innings of work, while Whitney Robinson (0-3) received the loss
for FAMU as she gave up nine hits, eight earned runs and struck out one in two
and two-thirds innings of work. In relief Ashley Minter finished the game for
the Lady Rattlers allowing just three hits and one walk in four and one-third
innings of work.
UNF took a 3-0 lead into the
bottom of the second inning.
FAMU would plate a run in
their half of the second as Myrick scored on a wild pitch.
The Lady Rattlers would
score their final run of the game in the bottom of the fourth as Robinson
scored on a Myrick single, cutting the Ospreys' lead to 8-2 for the finale.
