Spotwood Double-Double Not Enough to Overcome VCU
BALTIMORE -- Leola Spotwood scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to record her second consecutive double-double, but Coppin State went over 10 minutes without scoring in the second half as Virginia Commonwealth posted a 57-46 non-conference victory over the Eagles on Saturday in the Physical Education Complex.
Robyn Parks had 19 points and Shekinah Henry added 12 points and 12 rebounds for VCU. Jessica Pellechio added 13 points, six rebounds, four steals and two assists.
Shanice Maynard added 11 points and five rebounds for Coppin State, while Kyra Coleman had nine points and five rebounds.

UMES Defense Smothers Towson, Lady Hawks Win 60-48
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - With a tremendous defensive effort, UMES held Towson to just 12 field goals as the Lady Hawks won 60-48 for the first win over the Tigers in school history. UMES snaps a three-game losing streak to improve to 2-4, while the Tigers fall to 4-3.
This was UMES's best defensive performance of the season, holding Towson to just 25% from the field. The Lady Hawks also contributed 14 steals and eight blocks.
Shawnee Sweeney finished with 15 points in the game, a career-high, including 13 in the first half. Alexis Udoji had a strong day with six points, six blocks, six boards and a pair of steals. Shanyce Stewart concluded with eight points, all coming from a 8-of-9 day at the free throw line, nine rebounds and three steals.
For Towson, Tanisha McTiller led the team with 25 points and four steals. Michelle Peebles had nine points, eight rebounds and four steals.
