Men's Basketball Recap: December 5

COLLEGE PARK, Md.-Kyree Jones scored the Hawks' first 11 points on the way to a game high 24 points but it wasn't enough as the University of Maryland Terrapins shell-shocked the University of Maryland Eastern Shore 100-68 in the Comcast Center on Wednesday night.

Jones sharp-shooting gave the Hawks' their only lead, 3-2, just 26 seconds into the game.  He would go on to make one contested jumper after another until Travis Trim got a put back to cut the lead to seven, 20-13 six minutes later.  Ishaq Pitt would sink a pair of throws at the eight minute mark to cut the lead in half, 30-15.  Pitt scored again just under the five minute mark but the lead was already 17, 34-17.

Jones finished with 18 first half points on 7-12 shooting, the rest of the Hawks were just 2-27.

The Hawks entered the locker room down 49-28 and could not dig out of the 21 point hole.  They got down as many 27 early in the second frame when Logan Aronhault drained a pair of three-pointers, but the hot shooting of Troy Snyder and a steal and lay-in by Donald Williams II would cut the lead back to 21 with 12 minutes to play.

Snyder heated up in the second half and would finish with 19 points, all but two in the second half.

The Terps started their regular starters in the second half and outran the Hawks in the second frame.  They would lead by 29 with 10 minutes to play, 75-46.  UMES never quit however, getting steals and hustle plays from Trim, Snyder, Pitt and Dominique Cowell.

Snyder, Jones and Louis Bell continued to shoot and made some clutch shots to keep the difference close to 20.  Bell would finish with 12 points.

Spencer Barks sank two free throws with 1:41 left to give the Terps a 30 point lead, 94-64.   Four Connor Lipinski free throws at the end gave Maryland the century mark and the final 100-68.
