Spotwood Posts Double-Double in Loss to American

WASHINGTON, D.C.-Senior Leola Spotwood scored 12 points and grabbed 16 rebounds, but American defeated Coppin State 70-54 on Wednesday in Bender Arena.

American, which never trailed in the game, was led by Alexis Dobbs who scored 16 points. Jen Dumiak had 13 points and Ti'Asia McGeorge added 12 points for American.

Coppin State (3-5) also received 14 points from Shawntae Payne and 13 points from Kyra Coleman.

American (3-4) shot 43.5 percent from the floor, but limited Coppin State to just 32.3 percent shooting for the game.

American scored 19 points off of Coppin State turnovers and outscored the Eagles 36-18 in the paint.

Lady Hawks Fall To Mount St. Mary's 62-58

EMMITSBURG, Md. - Karona Roach hit a three-pointer with 54 seconds left to tie the game, completing a team comeback from down 12, but UMES fell after late Mount St. Mary's free throws gave the win to the Mount 62-58 at the Knott Arena.  UMES goes to 1-4 on the year while Mount St. Mary's improves to 2-4.

Roach finished with a career-high 20 points, including 7-8 from the free throw line.  Ashleigh Claybrooks also had a career-high in points with 11 and rebounds with nine, while Sha-Kiyla Finney finished with 11 points.

Selina Mann concluded with 20 points, nine boards, five assists and three steals for the Mount.  Sydney Henderson got a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Kayla Grossett got nine points and six boards off the bench.
