Lady Bears Edge Lady Eagles in Overtime
BALTIMORE -- Bianca Jarrett scored 26 points, including four in overtime, leading Morgan State to a 70-63 victory over Coppin State in the MEAC opener for both schools on Monday in Hill Field House.
After Simone Sampson converted two free throws to open the overtime, Jarrett scored inside giving Morgan State a 64-60 lead with 4:13 to play in the extra session.
Tracey Carrington, who had 21 points, added a pair of free throws to push the lead to 66-60 with 3:31 to play.
Shawntae Payne converted a jumper for Coppin State that cut the lead to 66-62 with 2:34 left, but Jarrett answered with two free throws to increase the lead to 68-62.
Carrington scored on a layup following a free throw by Coppin State's Jaleah Holsey that increased the lead to 70-63 with 39 seconds left.
Jarrett added 10 rebounds, six assists and two steals for the Bears, while Carrington added 13 rebounds and two steals.
Morgan State (4-5, 1-0 MEAC) made just 2-of-7 field goal attempts in the overtime period, but converted all six free throw attempts.
Coppin State (3-4, 0-1 MEAC) was led by Larrisa Carter who scored 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Carter was 14-of-16 from the free throw line and 3-of-6 from the floor.
Kyra Coleman added 16 points and eight rebounds for the Eagles, while Holsey scored 12 points.

S.C. State Rallies in Overtime for 62-59 Win Over NSU
ORANGEBURG, S.C. - Mykayla Jones scored a pair of 3-pointers in overtime to lift S.C. State over Norfolk State, 62-59, on Monday night at S-M-H Memorial Center in Orangeburg, S.C.
Ebony Brown was the Spartans lone scorer in overtime nailing a 3-pointer with 0:32 on the clock.
NSU fell to 0-2 in conference play and 1-6 overall.
Rachel Gordon had her fourth double-double of the season to lead the Spartans with 16 points and 18 rebounds. Kashay Barnes tallied 10 points, five rebounds and three assists for NSU.
S.C. State had three players in double figures. Jones had 17 points, three rebounds and four assists. Tiara Knotts added 14 points and six rebounds while Fannie Goodwin picked up a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds
NSU shot 33.3 (23-69) percent from the floor. Parham had nine points and six rebounds for the Spartans. Brown also had nine points and four steals.

Howard Too Much For Lady Hornets
Dover, Del. -- MEAC preseason favorite Howard forced Delaware State into 24 turnovers and 35% shooting in a 54-40 victory over the Lady Hornets in Memorial Hall this evening.
Howard improved to 4-4 overall and 1-0 in the MEAC. The loss snapped a two-game win streak for DSU, which fell to 2-4 and 1-1.
Howard's Saadia Doyle, the 2012-13 MEAC Preseason Player of the Year, led all players with 24 points and 10 rebounds.
Deanna Harmon led the Lady Hornets with 16 points, while Tierra Hawkins added 15. Hawkins also tied for the team high with seven rebounds.
The Lady Hornets were 12-of-34 from the field (35.3%), including one-for-two on three point shots. Howard hit 19 of its 45 shots (42.2%) from the floor. The Bison were two-of-seven from beyond the arc.
Delaware State held a 30-23 rebound advantage. The Lady Hornets had 10 offensive rebounds, leading to 10 points.

SAVANNAH, Ga. - Hampton shot 83.3 percent from the free-throw line, knocking down 25 of 30 attempts en route to a 70-40 MEAC win over the Savannah State Lady Tigers, Monday night in Tiger Arena.
SSU was 14-for-59 from the field (23.7%) in the loss. Ezinne Kalu led the Lady Tigers with 17 points, followed by Andrietta Thomas with eight. Charmaine Green led in rebounds with eight.
Savannah State falls to 3-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play, while Hampton improves to 6-3, and 2-0 in the MEAC.
Keiara Avant led Hampton with 22 points, followed by Olivia Allen with 18, and Kenia Cole with 13. The Lady Pirates outrebounded SSU 48-35.
