MEAC Announces Women's Basketball Weekly Honors

Florida A&M guard Jasmine Grice was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. Maryland Eastern Shore's Alexis Udoji earned Rookie of the Week honors, while Hampton's Keiara Avant earned Defensive Player of the Week accolades.

Grice (Guard, 5-10, r-Jr., Quincy, Fla.) scored 30 points, including 12-of-19 from the floor and 2-of-4 from 3-point range against South Florida. She added 11 rebounds, four assists and four steals and shot 80-percent (4-for-5) from the charity stripe.

Udoji (Forward/Center, 6-4, Fr., Randolph, Mass.) grabbed a total of 17 rebounds and scored seven points against Hartford and Brown. She added two blocks, two steals and one assist in the two games. 

Avant (Forward, 5-11, Sr., Chesapeake, Va.) grabbed 22 rebounds and stole four passes in two games for the Lady Pirates.  Offensively, she combined for 26 points, including 4-of-5 from the free-throw line.

Other Top Performers:

Saadia Doyle (Howard) scored 21 points, while shooting 50-percent from the floor, and grabbed nine rebounds in a 67-50 loss to Ohio State.

Trinese Fox (SCSU) recorded a double-double of 13 points and 14 rebounds against Old Dominion.

Nicole Hamilton (Hampton) averaged 13.5 points and 3.5 rebounds in two games for the Lady Pirates.

Tierra Hawkins (DSU) combined for 39 points and 11 rebounds against Wisconsin and Central Connecticut State.

Tiara Knotts (SCSU) scored a game-high 21 points with nine rebounds, three assists and four steals against Old Dominion.

Quineshia Leonard (NSU) totaled 13 points and 22 rebounds in two games for the Spartans.

Chastity Rene Taylor (B-CU) led the Lady Wildcats with 19 points and two rebounds in a 63-54 loss to Holy Cross.

Karona Roach (UMES) tallied a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds against Hartford.
