Howard Falls to Ohio State
COLUMBUS, Ohio-In their second matchup with a nationally ranked opponent, Howard suffered a 67-50 loss to No. 24 Ohio State of the Big Ten Conference on Sunday, Dec. 30 at the Value City Arena in Columbus, Ohio.
Lady Bison senior Saadia Doyle tallied the only double-figure outing of the contest with 21 points, while seniors Kara Smith and Cheyenne Curley-Payne scored eight points apiece. Curley-Payne finished with six assists and Doyle gathered three steals. Freshman Victoria Gonzalez made her statistical debut with four points and five assists.
Collectively, HU shot 33 percent from the field (18-54), 25 percent from the three-point range (3-12) and 65 percent from the free-throw line (11-17).

SC State Closes out 2012 With a Loss to Old Dominion
Norfolk, Va.--SC State closed out the 2012 calendar year with a 79-63 non-conference loss to Old Dominion University. The loss is the second straight for the Lady Bulldogs.
Senior guard Tiara Knotts continued to play well for SC State, who fell to 8-4 on the season. Knotts, finished with a game-high 21 points. Senior guard Trinese Fox came off the bench to record her first double-double of the season, 13 points-14 rebounds, including 9-of-10 from the free-throw line.
Old Dominion (9-2) was paced by Shea Kelley with 20 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocks. Jackie Cook was the only other Lady Monarch player to score in double figures with 16.

Holy Cross Outguns Bethune-Cookman in 63-54 Loss
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Holy Cross (6-6) ended Bethune-Cookman's (5-6) 2012 by snapping the Lady Wildcats' three-game win streak with a 63-54 B-CU loss at historic Richard V. Moore Gymnasium on Sunday.
Chastity René Taylor took charge for the Lady Wildcats in the early going, but even with her 13 first-half points, the Lady Wildcats trailed 31-25 at the break, as timely HC threes stopped B-CU's momentum and gave the Crusaders energy.
A pair of Jasmine Evans jumpers narrowed the gap to four in the opening moments of the second half, but over eight minutes without a B-CU field goal granted the Crusaders a double-digit lead.
Stepping up the pressure late in the second period gave the Lady Wildcats an opportunity, but successful outings at the free throw line only kept the distance as the Lady Wildcats faltered at the line. B-CU duked it out until the final buzzer, but was unable to draw the deficit under seven, falling to Holy Cross 63-54.
B-CU granted Holy Cross 33 attempts from the charity stripe, and they took advantage, hitting 78.8 percent (26). Meanwhile, the Lady Wildcats hit just 45.5 percent of their 22 chances at the line. The Crusaders hit just 15 field goals in the game.
Taylor led all scorers with 19, as the only Lady Wildcats player in double figures. Taylor was 6-of-12 from the floor, including three from long distance, along with a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line. Coming up as B-CU started to get the inside game going late in the second half, Sharnese Neal and Amanda Hairston each logged nine in the contest.

Missouri State Clips Coppin State
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Whitney Edie and Kenzie Williams combined to score 47 points leading Missouri State to an 88-75 victory over Coppin State on Sunday in Hammonds Arena.
Edie scored a game-high 26 points, while Williams added 21 points to lead the Bears. Karly Buer added 12 points and Christiana Shorter had 10 points for Missouri State.
Shawntae Payne scored a game-high 18 points for Coppin State (4-9), while Larrisa Carter added 15 points and 14 rebounds. Leola Spotwood added 13 points and Janelle Lane had 12 points for Coppin State.

Lady Pirates Drop Defensive Battle At Virginia Tech
BLACKSBURG, Va.-Hampton lost a defensive struggle at Cassell Coliseum on Sunday afternoon, as Virginia Tech emerged with a 55-45 win.
The Lady Pirates (9-5) dropped their first road game of the season.
Junior guard Nicole Hamilton led the Lady Pirates with 17 points, hitting four of her seven 3-pointers. Senior forward Keiara Avant posted her seventh double-double of the season with 12 points and 14 rebounds.
The Lady Pirates shot 29.3 percent (17-for-58) from the floor and made just five of their 13 free throws. Both teams had 38 rebounds, and the Lady Pirates held an 18-13 edge on the offensive glass.
Virginia Tech shot 33.3 percent (16-for-48) from the floor and only turned the ball over 14 times. The Hokies out-scored the Lady Pirates 45-28 in the second half, rebounding from a 10-point effort in the opening 20 minutes.
