MEAC Announces Men's Basketball Weekly Honors

North Carolina Central's Stanton Kidd was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's (MEAC) Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.  Deron Powers of Hampton was named Rookie of the Week while Norfolk State's Rob Johnson earned Defensive Player of the Week accolades.

Stanton Kidd (F, 6-7, 215, Jr., Baltimore, Md.) combined for 38 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and two blocks in two victories. Against North Carolina A&T, Kidd scored a career-high 24 points, including a perfect 13-of-13 from the free-throw line.  He connected on 10-of-18 baskets (55.0%) and was 15-of-17 (88.0%) from the charity stripe during the week.

Deron Powers (G, 5-11, 165, Fr., Williamsburg, Va.) averaged 17.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 3.5 steals for the Pirates. He lead Hampton to a 58-50 conference win against Howard with a career-high 22 points, seven steals and six assists. He also sank 6-of-7 (85.7%) from the free-throw line.  

Rob Johnson (F, 6-8, 220, Sr., Roswell, Ga.) grabbed 19 rebounds with eight steals and one block in three games for the Spartans. Offensively Johnson tallied 35 points and added 10 assists.

Other Top Performances

Adama Adams (SCSU) scored 16 points, including 7-of-13 from the floor, in a win over Jacksonville.

Jamie Adams (FAMU) led the Rattlers with 24 points in a 75-67 conference win against Bethune-Cookman.

Miles Bowman (DSU) scored 15 points and 13 rebounds against Eastern Kentucky.

Jamari Bradshaw (FAMU) tallied 20 points and six rebounds against Bethune-Cookman.


Shaquille Duncan (MSU)
posted a double-double of 17 points and 14 rebounds in a 81-80 win over VMI.
 

Jamel Fuentes (NSU) averaged 10.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 7.3 assists to aid the Spartans to a 2-1 mark last week.

Rashid Gaston (NSU) totaled 16 points and 14 rebounds in three games for the Spartans.

Kendall Gray (DSU) combined for 12 points, 11 rebounds and 10 blocks in two games. 


Matthew Hezekiah (SCSU)
posted 12 points and a career-high six blocks against Jacksonville.

Anthony Hubbard (MSU) averaged 15.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in two victories for the Bears.

Kyree Jones (UMES) tallied 24 points, while shooting 54.5 percent from the floor, against Delaware State.

Michael Murray (CSU) averaged 9.5 points and 11.0 rebounds per game against Loyola (Md.) and at Indiana.

Daryll Palmer (SCSU) scored 12 points and blocked four shots against Jacksonville.

Tahj Tate (DSU) posted 24 points and four rebounds in a 76-66 conference win over Maryland Eastern Shore.

Ray Willis (NCCU) totaled 32 points, 17 rebounds and five assists in two games.
