No. 25 Arkansas Tops Coppin State 71-57

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Senior Shawntae Payne had 14 points, but Sarah Watkins scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds leading No. 25 Arkansas to a 71-57 victory over Coppin State on Friday at Bud Walton Arena.

The Razorbacks, who outscored the Eagles 23-9 from the free throw line, also received 11 points from Dominique Robinson and 10 points from Quistelle Williams.

Leola Spotwood had 11 points and 10 rebounds for Coppin State, while Kyra Coleman added 11 points.

Egwu Leads Cavaliers Past NSU, 66-23

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Simone Egwu led the way with 16 points and four rebounds as Virginia defeated Norfolk State, 66-23, Friday night at the Cavalier Classic in John Paul Jones Arena.

The Cavaliers improved to 7-4 and the Spartans fell to 2-9.

Sophomore Quineshia Leonard led NSU with nine points and 18 rebounds. The Spartans only shot 22 (11-of-50) percent from the field.

Virginia had three players reach double-digit point totals in the game as it was a collective effort in the win. As a team, Virginia was 24-of-58 (41.4%) from the field and 13-of-16 (81.3%) from the free throw line.

Roach Earns Double-Double As UMES Falls to Hartford

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - UMES's offense had trouble getting going on Friday as the Lady Hawks fell to Hartford 53-38 in the first round of the Terrapin Classic at the Comcast Center.  UMES falls to 4-7 while Hartford improves to 9-4.

With the defeat, UMES will take on Brown at the Comcast Center at 7 p.m. for its second game in the Terrapin Classic.  Hartford will face Maryland at 4:30 p.m.

Karona Roach earned the first double-double of the season for UMES with 10 points and 11 rebounds, adding four steals, all team-highs against Hartford.  Sha-Kiyla Finney concluded with seven points, while Ashleigh Claybrooks and Shawnee Sweeney each had six.

Nikkia Smith concluded with 14 points off the bench for Hartford to lead the team.  Elliott got 12 points, while Katie Roth finished with five points and 10 rebounds.

Hawkins' 21 Points Not Enough As Lady Hornets Fall To Badgers

Coral Gables, Fla. (Dec. 28, 2012) --- Despite a game-high 21 points by Tierra Hawkins, Delaware State fell to Big Ten Wisconsin 83-54 in the opening game of the Miami Holiday Tournament at the Bank United Center on Friday evening.

Morgan Paige led four Wisconsin players in double-figures with 17 points. Jackie Gulczynski added 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds for the Badgers, who improved to 8-4 this season.
Hawkins was eight-for-15 from the field for DSU. It was her ninth double-figure scoring game of the season, and fourth with 20-or-more points. She also tied for team-high honors with six rebounds.

Tasia Bristow was the only other Delaware State player in double figures with 14 points. Her performance was highlighted by three three-point field goals.

North Carolina A&T Falls to Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va.-
After a week off the court, North Carolina A&T struggled to get things started offensively on Friday afternoon at Cassell Coliseum against Virginia Tech.

The Aggies (6-5) shot a season-low 24 percent and had a season-low 26 rebounds as the Hokies outrebounded the Aggies by 22.

JaQuayla Berry led the Aggies with 16 points on 8-for-8 shooting from the free throw line.
