Pitt Uses Strong Second Half To Shake Stubborn Hornets

Pittsburgh, Pa. (Dec. 19, 2012) --- Delaware State trailed by just four points at the half, but was outscored 40-16 in the final 20 minutes of a 71-43 loss to Pittsburgh at the Peterson Events Center this evening.

Tahj Tate was high scorer for the Hornets with 19 points. He was 8-for-17 from the field, including two 3-pointers. He was averaging 15.0 points per game entering the contest. Casey Walker added eight points for DSU. He also had two three-point baskets.

J.J. Moore came off the bench to score 15, while Adams tallied 10 for Pitt.

The Panthers (11-1), winners of seven straight, were 30-for-49 from the field (61.2%) and held a 35-14 rebound advantage.

The Hornets were 6-for-19 from the field in the second half (31.6%) and 17-of -43 for the game (39.5%).

Coppin State Holds Off Towson 64-61

TOWSON, Md. -- Michael Murray scored 15 points, including two free throws with 8.2 seconds to play in regulation, leading Coppin State to a 64-61 victory over Towson on Wednesday at the Towson Center Arena.

Coppin State (3-9) was led by freshman Patrick Cole who scored 16 points, including 13 in the second half. Murray finished with 15 points and nine rebounds and Andre Armstrong made 4-of-7 three-point attempts and finished with 14 points.

Towson (4-8) was led by Marcus Damas who scored 16 points, while Jerrelle Benimon added 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Tigers.

NCCU Nearly Pulls Off Huge Upset Over Drake

DES MOINES, Iowa - North Carolina Central used combined game-high performances from juniors Jeremy Ingram and Stanton Kidd as the two teamed up 46 points to carry the Eagles who nearly pulled off the huge upset of the host Bulldogs of Drake falling 72-69 on a snowy Wednesday night at the Knapp Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Ingram finished with 23 points going 5-for-10 from three-point range a career-high for him, while Kidd was one-point shy of his NCCU career high with 23 points for the Eagles.

Drake (5-5) was led by VanDeest who finished with 19 points, while the maroon and gray forced one of the top shooters in the Missouri Valley Conference Simons to a 4-for-11 effort from the outside and only six points in the second half to finish with 16 in the win.
