Radford Thumps NSU, 73-50

RADFORD, Va. - Ashley Buckhannon had 17 points, four rebounds, and three assists to lead Radford over Norfolk State, 73-50, at the Dedmon Center on Thursday night.

The Spartans remained scoreless until freshman Aivah Parham hit a pair of free throws to bring NSU within two as they trailed, 4-2, with 16:30 remaining in the half.

Ayana Avery's layup with 3:41 left on the clock capped an 11-0 run by Radford before halftime as the Spartans continued to trail, 29-11.

Sophomore Ebony Brown, who had a career-high 26 points and led all scorers, hit a three-pointer with 54 seconds left in the half.  Brown was 4-of-7 from the 3-point line.

Radford's La'She' Walker got the layup with 21 seconds left to send the Highlanders into halftime with a 31-19 lead over the Spartans.

A 3-pointer by Brown with 17:52 left in regulation sparked a 7-0 run for the Spartans that included free throws by Parham and senior Recca Trice, but Radford still led NSU, 38-28.

Brown continued to strike gold from behind the arc as she drilled another 3-pointer with 11:03 remaining as NSU continued to trail Radford, 47-36.  Brown had 19 of the Spartans 31 points in the second half.

The Spartans shot 32.1 (18-of-56) percent from the floor.  They also shot 54.5 (6-of-11) percent from 3-point range.  Kashay Barnes had eight points and one steal for NSU.

Aside from Buckhannon, the Highlanders had three other players in double-figures, including Victoria Hamilton, who had the only double-double of the game with 10 points and 11 rebounds.  Aisha Foy had 13 points, four rebounds, and two assists while Jordynn Gaymon tallied 11 points, six rebounds, and four blocks.

Phoenix Soar Past Morgan State In Second Half, 74-54

ELON, N.C. - Kelsey Evans scored a game-high 19 points and Zora Stephenson and Ali Ford each scored 14 points to lead host Elon past Morgan State, 74-54 in a non-conference game Thursday night at Alumni Gym.

The Phoenix (4-4) improved to 2-0 all-time against Morgan State with the win, while the Lady Bears fell to 0-4 on the road this season. The loss also was the 10th straight road defeat for Morgan State dating back to last season.

Morgan State (4-6) jumped out to a 13-3 advantage with the help of back-to-back three-pointers from Whitney Southerland.

Elon however responded with a 12-4 run to take its first lead of the game (18-17), following two free throws by Lauren Hudson with 10:57 left in the first half.

Tracey Carrington scored four straight for Morgan State, as the Lady Bears reclaimed the lead 21-18. Carrington then added another free throw after a 4-0 spurt by Elon, to even the score at 22 all with six minutes remaining.

That would be the last points of the half for Morgan State, as Elon would hold the guests scoreless for the final six minutes and take a 26-22 lead at the break.

The Phoenix held Morgan State without a point for six minutes and 22 seconds while using a 20-0 run. The Lady Bears finally ended the drought on a layup by Carrington with 36 seconds left and Southerland added a three-pointer to close out the scoring.

Morgan State, which was coming off a 10-day layoff, was led by Bianca Jarrett, who scored a team-high 15 points, while Tracey Carrington finished with 13 points. Southerland added 12 points.

The Lady Bears recorded 15 steals in the game with Jarrett leading the way with a game-high of five. Moneshia Davis finished with three steals, giving her 139 for her career and moving her into ninth all-time at Morgan State.
