Hampton's Wilkins, Huwe Named NFCA All-American Scholar Athletes

HAMPTON, Va. - Hampton University junior Margaret Wilkins and senior Shine Huwe were named All-American Scholar Athletes by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) on Thursday.

"I'm very proud of both of these young ladies," head coach Trena Peel said. "This defines student-athlete, taking care of business on the field and in the classroom.  Hopefully, this honor will motivate their teammates to follow in their footsteps."

Huwe (Green Bay, Wisc.) ended the 2011-12 academic year with a 3.83 GPA, while Wilkins (Tustin, Calif.) had a 3.62 GPA.

The award is bestowed upon any player submitted by a member coach who achieved a 3.50 GPA or higher during the 2011-12 academic year. The honor marks the second component of the NFCA's academic award program.

Teams with the highest GPAs in each membership category were recognized in October.
