CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The North Carolina Central University women's basketball team suffered a 49-21 loss to No. 19 North Carolina on Wednesday, Dec. 12 in Carmichael Arena in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Freshman Tisha Dixon led the Lady Eagles with a team-high eight points and her career-high 12 rebounds. The Kinston, N.C., native shot 3-for-11 from the field and 2-for-4 from the free throw line during the loss. Senior red shirt Chasidy Williams contributed seven points and nine rebounds for NCCU.
UNC opened the contest with a three-point basket from Brittany Rountree. NCCU tied the ball game at three at the 16:25 mark after a made free throw from junior Tenika Neely. With 6:04 left in the first half the Lady Tar Heels took a double-figure lead finishing out the half on a 17-3 run.
After the first twenty minutes of play UNC led the Lady Eagles 21-6.
North Carolina continued its dominance in the second-half of play with a margin-high 30 points at the 2:56 mark, leading 49-19.
Three UNC student-athletes scored in double-figures to seal the victory. Tierra Ruffin-Pratt finished the game with a game-high 14 points, four rebounds, four steals, one assist and one block. Rountree scored 11 points for the Lady Tar Heels, shooting 3-for-7 from behind the arch, while Danielle Butts contributed 10 points and pulled down eight boards.
