B-CU Drops Home Opener to UNF, 71-65

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Adrien Coleman double-doubled for the second straight game, but Bethune-Cookman dropped a 71-65 decision to North Florida in its home opener Tuesday in historic Moore Gymnasium.

Coleman finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds, but the Wildcats (2-5) were outshot by North Florida (2-4) by a 51 percent to 36.8 percent margin.

UNF's Parker Smith knocked down six three-pointers and finished with 22 points on 8-11 shooting to lead the Ospreys.

B-CU cut down a 14-point first-half deficit to a 32-26 halftime deficit, but UNF used a 9-3 run at the outset of the second half to take control. UNF's biggest lead was at 66-49 on two David Jeune free throws with 3:47 to play.

Kevin Dukes (16 points) hit two three-pointers in the final 24 seconds to close the margin to six. The senior had four three-pointers in the game.

Paul Scotland added 11 points, while Javoris Bryant registered eight points and four rebounds in his first action of the season.

Eagles Defeat UVU with Explosive First Half

DURHAM, N.C. – A 16-for-26 (61.5 percent) shooting effort in the first half that included a 20-to-6 run over a seven minute span gave North Carolina Central University all the cushion it needed to take down the Wolverines of Utah Valley 70-52 on Tuesday night at McDougald-McLendon Gym.

The Eagles (4-4) missed just 10 shots and were 4-for-9 (44.4 percent) from three-point range.  NCCU outscored UVU (3-5) 22-to-8 in the paint through the first 20 minutes and scored 12 points off 10 Wolverine turnovers.

Three student-athletes recorded double figures in the win as Ray Willis shot 6-for-11 from the field to finish with 15 points and nearly recorded his fifth double-double with nine rebounds.

Stanton Kidd ended the evening with 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting that included two big three-pointers in the second half. 

Jay Copeland contributed 11 points as he was a perfect 4-for-4 from the field.

Emanuel Chapman ended up with nine assists and needs just six more to tie former Eagle Michael Glasker for ninth on the all-time career assists list at NCCU with 258.

The maroon and gray outrebounded UVU 32-26 and outscored the Wolverines 34-26 in the paint.  With the win, in Moton’s tenure the Eagles are 27-12 at home in the friendly confines of McDougald Gym.
