MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY BASKETBALL HONORS

 

NORFOLK, Va., - Bethune-Cookman's Adrien Coleman was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's (MEAC) Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.  Patrick Cole of Coppin State was named Rookie of the Week while Michael Murray, also of Coppin State, was named Defensive Player of the Week, respectively.

Coleman (F, 6-5, 190, Sr., Atlanta, Ga.) averaged 20.0 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.7 steals in three non-conference games for the Wildcats last week.  He scored 31 points, shooting 12-of-18 (67%) from the floor, and grabbed 13 rebounds in a 93-81 win over Nebraska-Omaha in 39 minutes of play. 

Cole (G, 6-5, 190, Fr., Newark, N.J.) shot 60-percent from the field (6-of-10), including 2-of-3 from 3-point range in a 98-78 win over Cheyney. He also made 7-of-8 free-throws and added three assists, one steal and one rebound in the victory.

Murphy (F, 6-5, 210, Jr., Brooklyn, N.Y.) grabbed a game-high 15 boards and dished out one steal in a 98-78 win over Cheyney.  Offensively he added 14 points and two assists. 

Other Top Performers

John Adams (FAMU) scored 51 points in three games including 26 against Longwood (11-of-24). 

David Bruce (HAM) led the Pirates in three non-conference games averaging 14.3 points, 9.6 rebounds, 1.5 blocks and 1.5 steals

Kendall Gray (DSU) recorded a combined 22 points (10-of-14), 13 rebounds, and nine blocks in two non-conference games last week.

Jeremy Ingram (NCCU) shot 50-percent from the floor and averaged 14.5 points and 2.0 steals to help the Eagles finish 1-1 last week.

David Powers (HAM) totaled 31 points, 10 assists, five rebounds, and three steals in three games last week.

Alex Smith (B-CU) recorded 17 points, five rebounds, three blocks and one steal against Valparaiso.

Markee Teal (FAMU) averaged 10.0 points and 8.7 rebounds to help the Rattlers finish 1-2 in three non-conference games last week.
