 North Carolina A&T Cruise To Win Over WSSU

GREENSBORO -- Tiffanie Adair came off the bench to score 12 points as the North Carolina A&T women's basketball team defeated Division II Winston-Salem State 56-43 at Corbett Sports Center Sunday afternoon.

In five games, no team has been able to score more than 58 points against the Aggies. A&T held the Rams to 12 percent shooting in the first half and 25 percent shooting for the game. Opponents are shooting just 37.5 percent against the Aggies this season.

It took the Rams 6 1/2 minutes to score their first points of the second half. The Aggies took advantage of their height advantage by scoring around the basket. Ten of their first 12 second-half points came in the paint as they took a 36-14 lead with 11:46 remaining in the game. The Aggies also effectively used their bench on Sunday. Tiffanie Adair, a member of the All-MEAC Rookie team last season, led the Aggies with 12 points on 5-for-6 shooting in a reserve role. Center Eboni Ross came off the bench to score four points, block four shots, grab nine rebounds and dish out three assists.

Starting A&T point guard Adriana Nazario gave the Aggies their biggest lead of the game, 50-26, with 6:01 remaining. The Rams did shoot the ball better toward the game's end, but they still trailed 56-36 with a little more than a minute remaining in the game.

Spartans Fall to Appalachian State, 68-61

GREENVILLE, N.C. -   Norfolk State (1-4) fell to Appalachian State (4-1), 68-61, on Sunday afternoon at Minges Coliseum in the ECU Pirate Invitational.  Junior forward Rachel Gordon led the effort with 17 points and 9 rebounds.

Quineshia Leonard added 11 points for the Spartans. 

Four Appalachian State players scored in double figures.  Courtney Freeman and Katie Mallow each had 15 points for the Mountaineers.  Farrahn Wood tallied 12 points and Anna Freeman followed with 11 points and 8 rebounds.

Kashay Barnes and Aivah Parham each added eight points for NSU.

The Spartans shot 45.0 (27-of-60) percent from the floor and outrebounded Appalachian State, 45-35.

Recca Trice had three points and seven assists to move into sixth place all-time at NSU for career assists.

Lady Bears Suffer First Home Loss; Fall to Bucknell, 72-64

BALTIMORE-Shelby Romine scored 11 of her team-high 14 points in the second half to lead visiting Bucknell to a 72-64 non-conference victory over Morgan State on Sunday afternoon at Hill Field House. Alyssa Dunn scored 13 points and Felicia Mgbada came off the bench to add 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting, as Bucknell ended Morgan State's home unbeaten streak and evened the all-time series at a win apiece.

Morgan State (3-3) was led by Bianca Jarrtett, who scored a game-high 18 points, while dishing out a game-high seven assists. Tracey Carrington and Chyress Lockhart both added 13 points. Carrington also finished with a team-high eight rebounds.

The Bison outrebounded Morgan State, 53-33 with Audrey Dotson leading the way with a team-high 11 boards to go with nine points. Lindsay Horbatuck and Mgbada each pulled down nine rebounds.

Morgan State forced 22 turnovers out of Bucknell and recorded 11 steals with Moneshia Davis collecting a game-high three thefts.

Both squads notched four blocks apiece with Mgbada totaling two blocks for the Bison. Simone Sampson tallied all four blocks for the Lady Bears.

Howard Cruises To  77-52 Victory  Over Mount St. Mary's

WASHINGTON, D.C. For their second consecutive victory on the Burr Gymnasium hardwood, Howard defeated "The Mount" of Mount Saint Mary's on Sunday, Nov. 25 in Washington, D.C., 77-52.

To obtain a 25-point win, three Lady Bison seniors attained season-best outing.  Kara Smith tallied a season-high 20 points, going 4-of-6 from three-point range, while Cheyenne Curley-Payne and Saadia Doyle shared assists accolades with a season-high 10 assists for Curley-Payne and a season-best five assists for Doyle.

Doyle also led in scoring with 26 points, steals with two and rebounds with eight, while Curley-Payne accompanied 11 points to her 10 assists for a double-double and red-shirt junior Jerelle Gorham tallied 10 points.

Collectively, the Lady Bison finished at 64 percent from the charity stripe, 49 percent from the field and 38 percent from long range.
