Coppin State Downs Longwood Behind Coleman

BALTIMORE -- Junior Kyra Coleman tied her career high with 24 points and Coppin State halted a two-game losing streak with a 75-67 victory over Longwood on Tuesday in the Physical Education Complex.

Coleman finished the game 9-of-20 from the floor and 6-of-9 from the free throw line to lead the Eagles in scoring for the fourth consecutive game. She also had seven rebounds, two assists and two steals. Coleman established her career high when she scored 24 points against UMBC in the Eagles last game.

Leola Spotwood added 16 points and 11 rebounds as she posted her second consecutive double-double.

Coppin State (2-2) controlled the inside game as it out-rebounded Longwood 48-42 and outscored the Lancers 44-32 in the paint.

Longwood (1-4) was led by Chelsea Coward who scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Crystal Smith and Mieke Elkington each had 11 points for the Lancers.

LADY HAWKS HINDERED BY OLD DOMINION PRESSURE, FALL 62-46

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - The Lady Hawks had trouble with Old Dominion's pressure defense and second half scoring as they fell to the Monarchs 62-46 at the Hytche Athletic Center.  UMES falls to 1-2 while Old Dominion goes to 4-0.

Roach led UMES in scoring for the second straight game, earning 14 points and eight rebounds.  Sha-Kiyla Finney finished with a career-high 12 points off 4-11 shooting, hitting two from three-point range.  Shanyce Stewart and Ashleigh Claybrooks each concluded with five points.

Jackie Cook concluded with 22 points, including 18 in the second half, off 9-14 shooting for the Monarchs.  Shae Kelley got a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Berry Steal Leads A&T Women To Victory

LOUNDONVILLE, N.Y. - JaQuayla Berry made her fourth steal of the night with 4.5 seconds remaining to help the North Carolina A&T women's basketball team seal a 49-47 win over Siena at the Alumni Recreation Center.

Amber Calvin led the road-weary Aggies with 28 points. Calvin was 5-for-6 from 3-point range and scored 20 of her 28 points in the first half. After the Berry steal, she was fouled and hit one of two free throws to give the Aggies a two-point cushion. It was the only points scored in the final 6:15 of the game.

Siena's Ida Krogh saw her game-winning 3-point attempt go long at the buzzer as the Aggies improved to 2-2 by winning their second straight.  The Aggies went through a lot to get the win. Their scheduled 8 a.m., Monday flight was cancelled because the plane had mechanical problems. After not being able to book another flight, the Aggies had to bus 12 hours to New York.

Siena (1-3) was led by Lily Grenci's nine points and 10 rebounds.

Balanced Scoring Lifts SC State Over Presbyterian in Women's Basketball

Clinton, S.C.- SC State used a balanced attack to defeat Presbyterian College, 60-55, in a non-conference matchup in Clinton, S.C.  The victory marks the first time in five tries that the Lady Bulldogs were able to defeat the Blue Hose.  With the win Head Coach Doug Robertson picks up his 100th career coaching victory.

Senior Tiara Knotts led four SC State players in double-figures with 13 points, all coming in the first half.  Sophomore Kourtney Williams scored 11 while junior transfer Brittany Cochran and senior Paris Alston contributed 10 points each for SC State who improved to 2-1 on the season.  Senior Trinese Fox, who was instrumental defensively down the stretch, came off the bench to score six points (all in the second half) coupled with five defensive rebounds.  Senior Fannie Goodwin pulled in a team-high six rebounds for the Lady Bulldogs who shot 44 percent from the field and 70 percent from the charity stripe.

Presbyterian had three players to score in double-figures led by Mariah Pietrowski with 14.  Karlee Taylor scored 13 and Shonda Burnside added 12 points as the Blue Hose fell to 2-3 on the season.  Burnside and Pietrowski had seven rebounds apiece as Presbyterian shot 44 percent from the field and 29 percent from the charity stripe.

Bethune-Cookman Falls to Stetson, 66-52

DeLAND, Fla. - The Lady Wildcats were unable to overcome untimely second-half miscues and lights out shooting by Stetson's Victoria McGowan, as the Hatters were able to break free from a two-point game at the midpoint of the second half, en route to a 66-52 win over the Lady Wildcats Tuesday night at the Edmunds Center.

Chastity René Taylor led the Lady Wildcats on the scoreboard, putting up 14 and grabbing two steals. Tiara Redmon finished with 10 on the night, hitting 5-of-6 from the field. Leading B-CU on the glass, Sharnese Neal collected 10 boards, six points and a pair of steals.

McGowan led all scorers, finishing with 27 points, including 5-of-7 shooting from the perimeter, while also collecting a team-high eight rebounds.

Williams Leads All Scorers As NCCU Falls To WCU, 67-55

CULLOWHEE, N.C. -  North Carolina Central redshirt senior Chasidy Williams led all scorers at the Ramsey Center  with 20 as the Lady Eagles suffered a 12-point loss (67-55), to the Lady Catamounts from Western Carolina  in Cullowhee, N.C., Nov. 20.

Williams finished the night with her second double-digit scoring performance of the season with 20 points, four steals, four rebounds and one assist. Freshmen Amber Neely sophomore Montreshia Perry finished with 10 and nine points respectively, while Neely contributed a game high of four assists. Freshmen Tisha Dixon lead NCCU on the board with six total rebounds

Eight members of the Lady Catamounts squad score in the win, with Ali Lane and Rena Wakama contributing 12 points apiece. Lane also collected six boards, dished out two assists and forced a NCCU turnover with one steal.

WCU finished 47.2 percent from the field on 25-of-53 shooting, 41.7  percent from behind the arc, and 60 percent from the free-throw line, 12-of-20 and collected 27 boards.
