MEAC and Coppin State Welcome Local Elementary Students to Volleyball Tournament

The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) and Coppin State University invited 250 elementary school students from the local Baltimore area to participate in Kids Fun Day on Friday as a part of the 2012 MEAC Volleyball Championship tournament.

Students from Calvin Rodwell, Ashburton, Hilton, Belmont, Edgewood, and Gwynns Falls elementary schools participated in a fun-filled day full of physical fitness, nutrition tips, and a campus tour. The theme of the day was "Taking Charge of your Nutrition and Fitness".

Each child received a "game day" pack, which included a MEAC coloring book, a university word search, and a program BINGO, to interactively follow the volleyball competitions. Children also received a free t-shirt, lunch and were given a presentation on healthy eating.

As teams took the court, Coppin State's cheerleaders and mascot led students in cheering on the teams during the opening round of volleyball tournament. With purple and gold pom-poms in hand, the students rooted for their favorite MEAC teams at the Coppin State Physical Education Complex arena.

On Saturday, the tournament held a Community Wellness and Fun Fair for 150 local community groups, such as girl scouts and boy scouts and various clubs.  The fair was held on the terrace of the arena and included a variety of interactive games for participants, such as an arcade and a Wii. Various vendors were also present promoting health and wellness. The theme for the fair was "It's Fun to Be Fit".
