MARYLAND EASTERN SHORE ADVANCES TO MEAC FINAL WITH WIN OVER HAMPTON
Maryland Eastern Shore advanced to the championship match of the 2012 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball tournament with a 3-2 victory over Hampton at the Physical Education Complex on the campus of Coppin State University.
The Lady Hawks (27-5) await the winner of the Florida A&M/Norfolk State match.
Victoria Williams led UMES (27-5) with 23 kills on 35 attacks (.600) with two errors. Saitaua Iosia added a double-double of 21 kills and 15 digs. Ndidi Ibe also scored in double digits with 14 kills.
Vendula Strakova led the Lady Pirates with 26 kills on 52 attacks for a .346 hitting percentage. She added six digs and assisted on four blocks in the loss. Sonja Maksimovic added 11 kills, committing just two errors in 21 attacks to hit .429.
Krista Kraskura posted eight kills and a .444 hitting percentage before leaving in the third set with a knee injury. She also wound up with a team-high eight digs on defense.
The Lady Pirates concluded the season with a 19-14 overall mark.
Florida A&M Advances to Final with 3-2 Victory over Norfolk State
Florida A&M advanced to the championship match of the 2012 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball tournament with a 3-2 victory over Norfolk State at the Physical Education Complex on the campus of Coppin State University.
The Lady Rattlers (14-10) will meet Maryland Eastern Shore in the tomorrow's championship final. The two teams have met six times in the title game with FAMU holding the 6-1 advantage.
The championship match, which is scheduled for Noon, will air live on MEACSports.com
Yeisha Arcia guide FAMU to their 11th consecutive MEAC championship final with 19 kills and six digs. The redshirt freshman totaled 19.0 points for the Lady Rattlers. Maria Ceccarelli had 13 kills and seven digs , while Diana Gonzalez posted a match-high 41 assists.
Senior Charlotte Armstead led the Spartans with 15 kills on 31 attacks. Freshman Jessica Johnson added a double-double of 10 kills and 12 digs.
Norfolk State concluded the season with a 19-14 overall mark.
