UMES Falls In Season Opener To George Mason, 64-38
FAIRFAX, Va. - Despite a strong defensive effort early, the Lady Hawks fell to George Mason 64-38 at the Patriot Center on Tuesday night to open the season. UMES falls to 0-1 while George Mason goes to 1-1.
Jessica Long finished with a career-high 12 points, including 3-5 from behind the arc, with a team-high two assists and three steals. Shanyce Stewart had five points and nine rebounds off the bench, while Ashleigh Claybrooks concluded with six points and seven boards.
Rahneeka Saunders led all players with 13 points and four steals for George Mason. Teammate Shavonne Duckett got seven points and nine boards and Kyana Jacobs scored 11 points off the bench with five rebounds.

Lady Bears Fall Short At Towson, 61-57
TOWSON, Md.-Morgan State's Bianca Jarrett scored a game-high 17 points and Moneshia Davis added 12 points, but it wasn't enough as the Lady Bears dropped a 61-57 road decision to crosstown rival Towson in a non-conference game at the Towson Center.
Towson (2-0) was led by Tanisha McTiller, who finished with 14 points before fouling out, while Camille Alberson came off the bench and also tallied 14 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Michelle Peebles recorded 11 points in a reserve role.
Towson shot 45 percent (25-of-55) from the floor and went 1-of-8 (12.5 percent) from three-point range for the game. The Tigers shot 45 percent (10-of-22) from the free throw line.
The Lady Bears shot 30 percent (19-of-62) from the field, including 6-of-23 (23 percent) from three-point range. Morgan State connected on 13-of-17 (76 percent) from the charity stripe.
The Tigers held a 47-33 rebounding advantage over Morgan State and also finished with 16 assists to eight by the Lady Bears.
