MEAC Announces Volleyball Weekly Honors

NORFOLK, Va., November 12, 2012 - Hampton sophomore Vendula Strakova was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's (MEAC) Volleyball Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.  North Carolina Central's Christine Anthony earned Rookie of the Week accolades.

Strakova (6-0, So., OH, Brno, Czech Republic) combined for 49 kills on 82 attacks with a .488 hitting percentage in two victories for the Lady Pirates.  Against Delaware State, the sophomore tallied a double-double of 18 kills, 11 digs along with three aces. She followed that outing with a career-high 31 kills, hitting.510 from the floor in a 3-1 victory against Maryland Eastern Shore. She added four digs, two aces and two blocks in the win.

Anthony (5-10, OH, Sr., Wilemstad, Curacao) combined for 24 kills and 18 digs to aid the Lady Eagles to a 1-1 mark last week. Against South Carolina State, Anthony recorded her ninth double-double of the season with 15 kills and 13 digs and added one ace.

Yeisha Arcia (FAMU)
posted a double-double of 13 kills and 10 digs against South Florida.

Charlotte Armstead (NSU) combined for 38 kills, seven digs and seven blocks in three matches for the Spartans.

Maria Ceccarelli (FAMU) totaled 23 kills and 12 digs to aid the Lady Rattlers to a 1-1 mark last week.

Ngebui Chafeh (MSU) tallied a double-double of 39 assists and 10 digs in a four-set loss to Howard.

Assata Conaway (Howard) recorded 20 kills in a five-set win against Coppin State.

Laisha Davis (DSU) registered a .348 hitting percentage in two matches for the Lady Hornets.

Andrea Evans (NCAT) led the Lady Aggies with 11 kills on 26 attacks for a .473 hitting percentage in two matches.

Arianna Hayden (MSU) had a team-high 16 kills, nine digs and two blocks against Howard.

Saitaua Iosia (UMES) recorded back-to-back doubles-doubles to aid UMES to a 1-1 mark last week.

Jessica Johnson (NSU) totaled 26 kills and 26 digs in three matches for the Spartans.

Brooke Stamnes (NCAT) combined for 24 kills and 17 digs in two Lady Aggie victories.

Desire Waller (SCSU) posted 31 kills and 12 digs in a four-set victory against North Carolina Central.

Melanie Williams (SCSU) combined for 74 assists and 10 digs to aid the Lady Bulldogs to a 1-1 mark last week.
