MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY MEN'S BASKETBALL HONORS

 

NORFOLK, Va., - Norfolk State's Brandon Goode was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's (MEAC) Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.  Patrick Cole of Coppin State and Darryl Palmer of S.C. State were named Co-Rookies of the Week while Delaware State's Marques Oliver earned Defensive Player of the Week accolades.

Brandon Goode (C, 7-0, 225, Jr., Bronx, N.Y.) recorded his first career double-double of 13 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Spartans to a 67-55 victory over Rhode Island last week.  Goode connected on 6-of-9 baskets (66.7%) with one assist and one block in 24 minutes of play. 

Patrick Cole (G, 6-5, 190, Fr., Newark, N.J.) scored 25 points and stole six passes in an 87-73 loss to Southern California last week.  Cole was 7-of-13 from the floor, including 3-of-4 from behind the arc in his first collegiate game.  He also sank 8-of-11 from the free-throw line in 28 minutes of play. 

Darryl Palmer (F, 6-7, 190, Fr., Summerville, S.C.) shot 7-of-11 from the field en route to 21 points and eight rebounds in an 81-62 victory over Claflin.  Palmer recorded 3-of-4 from the 3-point line and 4-of-5 from the charity stripe.  He also blocked three shots in 28 minutes of play.

Marques Oliver (F, 6-7, 235, Sr., Durham, N.C.) hauled down 10 boards and blocked seven shots with two steals in the Hornets' loss to Gwynedd-Mercy.  Offensively Oliver tallied 11 points while shooting 50-percent from the floor (4-of-8) and 3-of-3 from the free-throw line. 

Other Top Performances

Rashid Gaston (NSU) scored seven points and grabbed seven rebounds with two steals against Rhode Island.

Rashad Hassan (SSU) shot 67-percent from the field (6-of-9) on the way to a 17-point performance in an 84-62 win over Trinity Baptist.

Anthony Hubbard (MSU) recorded a double-double of 17 points and 15 rebounds in a win over UT-San Antonio.

Kyree Jones (UMES) averaged 15 points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals in two non-conference matchups for the Eagles.

Reggie Lewis (FAMU) scored 18 points, dished out five assists, and hauled down one rebounds in a loss to Houston.

Station Kidd (NCCU) finished one-rebound shy of a double-double with 22 points and nine rebounds, playing the full 40-minutes, against Wichita State.

Jyles Smith (SSU) grabbed 11 rebounds, blocked three shots and scored eight points on 3-of-4 attempts with two free-throws against Trinity Baptist.

Khalif Toombs (SCSU) recorded 17 points, four rebounds, five assists and one steal in 36 minutes of play in an 81-62 win over Claflin.

Austin Witter (NCAT) scored 10 points, grabbed nine rebounds, blocked four shots and stole four passes in an 83-52 win over Greensboro College.
