Savannah State fell in three sets to the Citadel Wednesday night in Wilcox-Wiley Gymnasium.

Chikia Jones led the Lady Tigers with seven kills. Freshman Justice Dilworth followed with four kills and five digs. Bridgette Stephens led SSU in digs with 14.

Knotted up at two in the first set the Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 12-2 lead behind a 10-0 run. Trailing 8-22, the Lady Tigers continued to battle as Jones sparked some offense with a kill. On the ensuing serve, freshman Jasmine Waite knocked down a service ace.

SSU managed three more kills in the opening set, as the Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 1-0 match lead with a 25-14 set win. The Citadel rode the momentum from the first set into the second, taking a 4-0 lead on three kills.

Dilworth put SSU on the scoreboard in the second set with a kill on a set from Asiha Williams. The Lady Bulldogs responded with three straight points taking a 7-1 lead.

Later, a kill from Jones cut the visitors lead to seven, 3-10. A Citadel error sparked some offense for SSU, as kills from Bianca Brochu, Dilworth and a service ace from Bryana Gadis cut the Lady Bulldogs to 14-7.

The Citadel took advantage of several Savannah State errors late in the set to seal up a 25-10 game win and a 2-0 match lead.

The third set opened with back-to-back errors from both teams, knotting the score up at one. Several SSU errors and two kills gave the visitors from Charleston a 6-2 lead.

Out of a timeout, the Lady Bulldogs extended their lead to 13-7 behind several kills, and some SSU errors. Trailing 12-19 out of a timeout, Gadis knocked down a service ace to help spark some offense for the Lady Tigers.

Williams followed with a kill and Jones added a kill, cutting the Lady Bulldogs lead to six, 14-20. The Lady Tigers managed two more points in the set as the Citadel sealed up the 3-0 match win on a 25-16 set win.

The Lady Tigers fall to 0-30 overall, while the Citadel improves to 6-24.
