North Carolina A&T Falls to Radford

GREENSBORO-- North Carolina A&T put up a tough fight against Radford, but fell to the Highlanders (12-10) in three sets by 25-23, 25-19 and 25-22, after losing leads in the first and third games on Tuesday night at Moore Gym.

Freshman outside hitter Brooke Stamnes led the team with 15 kills, and posted 10 digs for her third double-double of the season.  She also hit a team-best .371, which set a personal new season high.  Senior middle hitter Andrea Evans had 10 kills and two blocks, and hit .300 for the Aggies as well.  The Aggies hit over .200 for the fourth time this season.

Bethune-Cookman Falls to Florida Gulf Coast

FT. MYERS, Fla. - Krysta Gardner became Bethune-Cookman's all-time kills leader in the Lady Cats' 3-1 (25-15,22-25,25-20,25-17) loss to Florida Gulf Coast in Alico Arena.

The senior's 17th kill of the evening, which occurred in the fourth set, moved her past the previous mark of 1,060 set by Melissa Sanders from 2001-2004. Gardner finished the evening with her fourth double-double of the season - 18 kills and 13 digs - while adding a service ace and a block.

Gardner can also become B-CU's career service ace leader, now needing 11 to break the current mark of 125 held by Javanne Johnson.

B-CU (3-19) had its three-match winning streak snapped, but managed to take a set from  a Florida Gulf Coast (12-7) team that's undefeated in Atlantic Sun Conference play.

Delecia Pierre and Phylecia Armstrong, both freshmen, contributed 10 and nine kills, respectively, while freshman setter Monica Lowe posted 31 assists. Armstrong hit .533

Junior libero Jennifer Jimenez had 21 digs and three service aces, and senior Janeen Davis had 16 digs and five kills.

Jill Hopper led three FGCU players in double figure kills with 17.

VCU Topples Norfolk State, 3-0

NORFOLK, Va. -Norfolk State fell to VCU by a 3-0 score Tuesday night in a non-conference match at Joseph Echols Hall.

The Rams won the first and third sets by 25-15 scores, while NSU nearly took the second set before VCU came out on top, 25-23. The win broke NSU's three-match win streak and dropped the Spartans to 6-16 overall. The Rams improved to 17-3 overall.

Senior Charlotte Armstead led all players with 10 kills on the night, while redshirt sophomore Noelle Eagles had a match-high 16 digs. The duo of senior Nicole Kessner and freshman Darcy Moore combined for 23 assists, and senior Beatriz Ferreira had a match-high five blocks.

Jessica Johnson chipped in with seven kills for NSU. Cecilia Aragao posted 33 assists and nine digs for the Rams. VCU hit .319 for the match compared to .116 for NSU.

SC State Falls to UNC-Greensboro in a Non-Conference Contest

 Greensboro, N.C.- SC State fell to UNC-Greensboro, 3-0, (14-25, 18-25, 21-25), in a non-conference matchup.  With the lost the Lady Bulldogs dropped to 5-9 overall.

SC State, who hit a just .156 for the game, had just one player to record in double-digit kills as junior Desire Waller recorded 10 in the match.  E. Paige Webb recorded six kills and Erica Pritchett and Taylor Bailey each recorded five kills in contest.  Webb also picked up a game-high 13 digs while freshman Melanie Williams put up 24 set assists in the loss.

UNC-Greensboro was paced by Karrian Chambers and Vickey Harley who recorded 11 and 10 kills, respectively.  Emily McMurtrey had 38 set assists and Olivia Humphries picked up 10 digs for the Spartans who hit a .340 for the game.

Lady Tigers Compete In Citadel Tri-Match

CHARLESTON, S.C. -Savannah State traveled to Charleston, South Carolina Tuesday to play in a tri-match hosted by The Citadel. The Lady Tigers fell to The Citadel 0-3 in the opening game, and dropped the second game to Charleston Southern, 0-3.

In the opening set against The Citadel, the Lady Tigers fell behind early but tied the game twice on kills from Bryana Gadis and walk-on Christian Lyle. The Lady Bulldogs then jumped to a six point lead on a 4-0 run, leading 16-10.

The Citadel won the first set 25-12 on several costly SSU errors. In the second set, the Lady Tigers fared better as Jasmine Waite gave them a 10-9 lead on a kill. A kill from Chikia Jones, a Lady Bulldog error, and a service ace from Keandra Lewis extended their lead to 14-11 moments later.

The Citadel tied the game up at 14, then took the lead on an SSU error,  prompting some momentum that helped them win the second set 25-17 and take a 2-0 lead.

In the third set the Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 13-9 lead midway through and held the offensive push winning the game 25-17, and with it garnered the match win.

Gadis led the Lady Tigers with eight kills and seven digs, while Bridgette Stephens led in digs, with 11.

The Lady Tigers faced off with Charleston Southern in the second game of the tri-match series.

In the opening set, the Lady Tigers trailed early, but battled back to tie the match at four on a kill from Waite and a Lady Buccaneers error.

CSU took a 7-6 lead moments later and then extended that lead, later, to 14-9, prompting an SSU timeout. The Lady Tigers continued to battle in the set, but CSU captured the set win with a 25-17 score.

The second set played as a mirror to the first as some costly SSU errors put them behind early, 11-5. A kill and two service aces from Gadis cut the home team's lead to two points, 14-12, prompting a CSU timeout.

A 7-1 run late in the game gave the Lady Buccaneers a 25-17 game win and a 2-0 lead in the match. The Lady Tigers struggled in the third set, falling 25-9, losing the match 0-3.

Gadis led the Lady Tigers with eight kills and five digs in the match. Stephens led in digs with 12.
