Florida A&M Sweeps North Carolina A&T

GREENSBORO, NC (Oct.7) -FAMU remained unbeaten in MEAC play as they blanked the Aggies of NC A&T (0-22, 0-3 MEAC) by a score of 3-0, today in Moore Gymnasium.  The Lady Rattlers used a balanced attack from Yeisha Arcia and Maria Ceccarelli, who scored 15 kills each to lead FAMU.  Pamela Barrera finished out the Lady Rattlers scoring double-digit kills with 11.

Diana Gonzales dished out 42 assists while  Karol Marquez was solid defensively, coming up with 16 digs.

Brooke Stamnes led the Aggies with seven kills to lead the Aggies.  Aleena McDaniel and April McRae were the next two most effective Aggie scorers, carding six and four kills respectively.

Chelsea Fox led the Aggies with 18 assists, while Stamnes collected 14 digs defensively.

Coppin State Hands Delaware State 3-1 Loss

DOVER, Del. - After taking control of the first set, the Delaware State University volleyball team couldn't recover the momentum as the Hornets fell, 1-3 (25-17, 16-25, 19-25, 22-25) to Coppin State at Memorial Hall Sunday afternoon.

Following a 15-kill career-high performance on Friday, sophomore Edarkis Branch tallied 12 with a .267 attack percentage for DSU (4-12, 1-3 MEAC).  Branch added six digs and a block assist in the loss.

Coppin State received 14 kills from Cindy Okpegbue while Bianca Chatman added 11 for the Eagles.

The Hornets were outblocked in the game, 13-7.

Junior Jessica Croucher led DSU with 10 digs while senior Bel Fakaosi collected 28 assists.

Spartans Rally From 2-0 Hole to Down Howard in 5

NORFOLK, Va. -Norfolk State struggled early on against Howard Sunday afternoon. Down 2-0 after a flat performance in the early part of the match, though, the Spartans finally found the spark that was needed to propel them to a 3-2 victory in a conference matchup at Joseph Echols Hall.

NSU committed 11 service errors in the first two sets as Howard won, 25-22, 25-22, despite the Spartans having the clear advantage on the stat sheet. After the 10-minute intermission, NSU turned it around and took the third set, 25-21, before cruising to 25-15, 15-7 victories in the last two sets.

The win marked the third in a row for NSU (5-16, 2-1 MEAC) and prevented the Spartans from becoming Howard's first 'W' of the year. The Bison dropped to 0-15 overall, 0-4 in conference play.

Senior Charlotte Armstead tallied a match-high 18 kills. Freshman Jessica Johnson added eight, while senior Beatriz Ferreira and junior Goda Jankauskaite had seven kills each, including five in the first set alone for Ferreira.

NSU nearly had three players with double-doubles, with freshman Darcy Moore tallying 29 assists and 15 digs. Redshirt sophomore Noelle Eagles led all players with 21 digs to go with 11 assists, and senior Nicole Kessner split time with Moore at setter and posted 14 assists and nine digs.

Assata Conway and Meagan Lagerlef each had 13 kills to lead the Bison.
