Savannah State Drops Match To Stetson

Savannah State fell, 0-3, to Stetson in a non-conference matchup in DeLand, Florida, Saturday afternoon.

SSU freshman Bianca Brochu led the team with six kills, while Ashlee Butler led in digs with nine. Kaneisha Hamilton added eight digs.

In the opening set, Stetson jumped out to a quick 8-1 lead on five kills, two service aces, and an SSU error, prompting an SSU timeout.

The Lady Tigers responded with a kill from Brochu on a set coming from Butler. Two Stetson errors cut the lead to six, 9-4, moments later. The Lady Hatters extended their lead on a 9-4 run taking a 10 point lead at 18-8.

SSU struggled against the Stetson momentum, scoring only two more points in the first set, as the Lady Hatters took a 1-0 lead on a 25-10 set win.

Stetson jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the second set behind several costly SSU errors. The Lady Hatters extended their lead to 10 points, 18-8, on back-to-back kills from Ellen Hawks and Enka White. SSU responded with a kill from freshman Justice Dilworth on a set from Asiha Williams.

The Lady Tigers dropped the second set 11-25 after the Lady Hatters knocked down six timely kills.

Trailing 0-2 into the third set, SSU fell behind as the Lady Hatters jumped out to a 10-0 lead. Brochu ended the run with a kill, but an SSU error and a Stetson kill prompted a Savannah State timeout, moments later.

The Lady Tigers continued to fight as Brochu, Dilworth, Keandra Lewis and Bryana Gadis all recorded kills, but the Lady Hatters overpowered SSU taking the third set 25-10, winning the match 3-0.
