MEAC Announces Volleyball Weekly Honors

Maryland Eastern Shore sophomore Saitaua Iosia was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's (MEAC) Volleyball Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.  Norfolk State's Jessica Johnson earned Rookie of the Week accolades.

Iosia (5-10, So., OH/RS, Long Beach, Calif.) averaged 16.5 kills and 4.0 digs to lead the Lady Hawks in two conference victories and improve to 7-0 in MEAC play. Iosia recorded 17 kills on 35 attacks for a .286 hitting percentage in a 3-0 sweep of Delaware State. She added three digs, two blocks, two assists and one ace in the victory. Against Morgan State, the outside hitter posted 14 kills, five digs, two aces, one block and one assist.

Johnson (5-10, Fr., OH, Land O'Lakes, Fla.) averaged 12.3 kills and 11.0 digs in three Spartan victories last week. In a non-conference match against North Carolina A&T, Johnson tallied a double-double of 20 kills and 13 digs with two aces and one block. She also posted 11 kills and nine digs with three assists and two aces in a conference win over Hampton.


Other Top Performers:

Janeen Davis (B-CU) tallied back-to-back double-doubles in two matches for the Lady Wildcats.

Te'Borah Hawkins-Hollingsworth (NCAT) led her team with 15 kills in a five-set loss to Norfolk State.

Arianna Hayden (MSU)
totaled 17 kills on 30 attacks for a .500 hitting percentage along with four blocks and five digs in a four-set win against Coppin State. 

Monica Lowe (B-CU) combined for 61 assists and 13 digs in two Lady Wildcat matches.

Brooke Stamnes (NCAT) recorded a double-double of 13 kills and 17 digs against Norfolk State.

Vendula Strakova (Hampton)
combined for 29 kills and 16 digs in two matches last week.

Chelsee Sauni (CSU) averaged 44.5 assists and nine digs for the Eagles.

Janelle Wilson (MSU) totaled 15 kills, seven blocks and two digs to aid the Lady Bears to a 1-1 mark last week.
