Wildcats Finish Seventh in Season Opening Tournament

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Bethune-Cookman sophomore bowler Natalee Armstrong was selected to the all-tournament team as she helped Bethune-Cookman to a seventh place finish at the Tulane Invitational on Sunday, Oct. 21. The three-day event took place at the AMF All Star Lanes and was hosted by Tulane University.

Armstrong concluded the weekend with a 202.2 average and scored a high of 233 in the third game of Saturday's team portion of matches, along the way helping the Wildcats defeat Grambling State.

On Sunday, the Wildcats entered the team tournament bracket as the seventh seed, facing off against Louisiana Tech in their opener. Bethune-Cookman fell in a tough match, 4-2, but bounced back to collect a 4-0 victory from Southern.

B-CU then faced Louisiana Tech once more in its final team match of the tournament.

The Lady Techsters opened the match with a 3-0 lead before the Wildcats stormed back to tie the match at three, sending it into sudden death. B-CU eventually came out on top to defeat the school that had collected wins against them three times over the course of the weekend - including a baker game from Friday's opening round action.

The player responsible for helping send the match into sudden death - senior Ypretycia Crumity from Largo, Fla. She would enter the match as a substitute in the third game, registering four crucial shots for the Wildcats.

Also having a solid performance over the weekend was sophomore Felicia Baker, ending the tournament with an average of 185 after scoring a game high of 226 (vs. Grambling State - 10/20) and topping the 200 plateau again with a 205 (vs. Jackson State - 10/20).

On the weekend, the Wildcats finished with a record of 3-6.

North Carolina A&T Finishes In Fifth At Tulane Invite

NEW ORLEANS -- The North Carolina A&T bowling team finished in fifth overall place in the Tulane Collegiate Bowling Invitational behind three National Tenpin Coaches Association ranked teams.

The Aggies built upon a strong day on Saturday to go 2-1 on Sunday, including two big wins against a top-20 team. The Aggies (6-6) competed in a bakers best 4-of-7 tournament bracket to determine the champion.

The Aggies defeated No. 18 Prairie View A&M 4-3 in the opening round. It was a key victory for A&T, since the Aggies took Prairie View to a tie breaker, after coming back from being 40 pins down to force an 808-808 tie in head-to-head competition on Saturday. A&T lost the tiebreaker at 114-97 to the Panthers for their only loss on Saturday.

But on Sunday, the Aggies battled back from being down 3-2 to win the sixth game 191-147 to force the decisive seventh game. The Aggies won that handily, 190-162, to advance in the tournament.

After defeating the Panthers, the Aggies took on No. 10 Stephen F. Austin and lost 4-1. The Aggies narrowly lost the third match 189-88, and were only two pins behind the Lumberjacks in the fifth match, making it a tough loss.

The Aggies then battled Prairie View A&M for fifth place in the tournament. They defeated the Panthers again, this time 4-2, as they closed the match with 203-133 and 179-131 wins to seal the victory.

Eighth-ranked Sam Houston State won the Invitational, edging No. 2 Arkansas State 4-3. The Aggies also finished behind third-place No. 10 Stephen F. Austin and fourth-place Jackson State. Fellow MEAC Southern Division opponent Bethune-Cookman ended up in seventh place, going 5-7 on the weekend.

CSU Bowlers Post Two Victories at Season-Opening Event

READING, Pa. -- Coppin State , led by Kristen Sharpe and Loren Johnston, opened the season with a pair of victories at the Kutztown Fall Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.

The Eagles recorded victories over Penn State-Altoona and Lincoln (Pa.) in team competition. CSU beat Penn State-Altoona 764-732 and defeated Lincoln (Pa.) 674-666.

Coppin State finished the meet with a 2-8 overall record.

Sharpe was the Eagles top bowler on the weekend as she averaged 167.6 in five games during team competition. She recorded a high game of 192 versus Hampton.

Johnston knocked down 814 total pins and averaged 162.8 per game and notched a high game of 202 against Saint Francis (Pa.)

Erica Washington, Kache Woods and Paige Arnold rounded out the Coppin State bowlers. Washington averaged 158.4 with a high game of 193 against Howard, Woods averaged 152.6 and had a high game of 193 against Saint Francis (Pa.) and Arnold averaged 110.8 and rolled a high game of 128 versus Hampton.

The Eagles posted a record of 2-3 in team match play and 0-5 in baker play.
