MEAC Bowling Ranked in NTCA Polls

UMES BOWLING TOPS PRE-SEASON MEDIA POLL

HUNTSVILLE, Texas-The Two-Time Defending National Champion Lady Hawks of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) are poised for another great season as they sit on top of both the media and coaches pre-season polls.  The National Tenpins Coaches Association (NTCA) released their pre-season media poll recently and it nearly duplicates the coaches' poll, perching UMES at the top.

The Hawks earned 11 first-place votes and 349 total points.

Just like the coaches' poll, Arkansas State was predicted second with two first-place votes and 308 total points.  Unlike the other poll, The Red Wolves and the Hawks are the only teams to earn first-place votes.

Fairleigh Dickinson University, who were the runner-up to the Hawks in last season's championship, was predicted third with 305 points, just shy of ASU.  Vanderbilt was fourth and Nebraska was fifth.

Other teams of note in the poll were Norfolk State in 11th, Bethune-Cookman in 17th and Delaware State in 20th, all representing the MEAC.

Wildcats Bowling 17th in NTCA Preseason Media Poll

HUNTSVILLE, Texas - The Bethune-Cookman University bowling team begins the season ranked No. 17 in the National Tenpin Coaches Association Preseason "Media" Poll released late Tuesday evening. This is the second Top 20 preseason ranking the Wildcats have earned in the past three weeks, starting the year at No. 18 in the NTCA Preseason "Coaches" Poll.

Set to open the season at the Tulane Invitational on Friday, Oct. 19, the Wildcats are under the direction of seventh-year head coach Robert "Tony" O'Neal - now serving in his third year back as head coach after a three-year stint away from the program. Last season, the Wildcats finished as the MEAC runner-up, falling to eventual champion Norfolk State in the tournament title match.

This season marks the 10th anniversary of the B-CU bowling program. In that time, Bethune-Cookman has enjoyed three MEAC championship appearances, including one title. In 2005, the 'Cats finished the season fourth in the NCAA finals, earning the highest finish for the sport in school history. The following year, they earned the second consecutive berth to the NCAA Championships.
