NSU Pulls Away from DSU in 3-1 Win
DOVER, Del. -Norfolk State pulled away from Delaware State in a 3-1 victory Friday night at Memorial Hall.
Four different players had at least seven kills for the Spartans, who split the first two sets with the Hornets, 25-22, 25-27, before easing their way to 25-11, 25-17 victories in the final two sets. NSU improved to 3-1 in the conference and 6-17 overall, including wins in four of the past five contests.
Delaware State got plenty of offensive production from Jessica Croucher-Russell and Edarkis Branch, but it was not enough as the Hornets dropped to 4-13 overall, 1-4 in MEAC play.
The Spartans had their second-best hitting output of the year with a .281 attack percentage and were led by senior Charlotte Armstead and junior Goda Jankauskaite, who each tallied nine kills on the night. Freshman Jessica Johnson added eight kills with eight digs and four service aces, while senior Nicole Kessner posted 18 assists, seven kills on just nine attacks, and five service aces.
Branch had 13 kills and 10 digs for the Hornets, and Croucher-Russell contributed 12 kills and nine digs.

Eagles Tie School Record for Wins
BALTIMORE -- Ariel Richard had 13 kills and Bianca Chatman added 11 kills and Coppin State tied the school record for victories in a season with a 25-23, 25-23, 25-15 MEAC victory over Howard on Friday in the Physical Education Complex.
With the victory, Coppin State raised its record to 8-9 overall and 4-2 in the MEAC and tied the school record for victories held by the 1990 team and matched by the 2006 team.
The Eagles hit a season high .329 for the match led by Richard, Kendra Ireigbe and Chatman. Richard hit .476 to lead the team, while Ireigbe hit .375 and Chatman hit .364.
Coppin State also received 37 assists and 12 digs from Chelsee Sauni, while Gabrielle Otero had 10 digs and a service ace.
Howard (0-16, 0-5 MEAC) was paced by Assata Conway who had eight kills, while Jaleeza Stoudermire added seven kills for the Bison.

Lady Rattlers Go To 5-0 In Meac With 3-0 Win Over Bethune-Cookman
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Oct. 12) - Both Pamela Barrera and Yeisha Arcia finished with 15 kills each as Florida A&M picked up their fifth conference win of the season with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-21, 25-20) win over arch-rival Bethune-Cookman, here Friday night at the Al Lawson Center in a MEAC matchup.
Maria Ceccarelli was the only other Lady Rattler to finish in double-digit kills with 10, while Diana Gonzalez led FAMU in assists with 42. Karol Marquez led the team in digs with 14.
B-CU was led by Krysta Gardner as she finished with team high 10 kills and seven digs on the night, while Monica Lowe finished with 26 assists.

16 ACES GUIDE UMES PAST HAMPTON 3-1
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Paced by 16 service aces, UMES took down Hampton in four sets (27-25, 25-15, 25-27, 25-16) to earn sole possession of first place in the MEAC Northern Division. The Hawks improve to 4-0 in the MEAC and 18-4 overall, while Hampton falls to 3-1 in-conference and 12-11 this season.
UMES improved its Division I-leading current home-winning streak to 26 matches, and increased its conference winning-streak to 16.
Saitaua Iosia led the Hawks with 18 kills, adding six aces and a pair of blocks. Ndidi Ibe had another strong day, hitting .542 with 14 kills, a career-high seven aces and five blocks, just one block away from tying Kaveinga Lea'Aetoa's all-time UMES blocks record of 204. Nearly getting a double double was Maline Vaitai, who earned 16 kills and eight digs, as did Jessica Vicic, who had 56 assists and nine digs.
Vendula Strakova finished with a Hampton-high 17 kills, also contributing six digs and two aces. Krista Kraskura concluded with 14 kills and six digs, while Bibiany Fonseca had 41 assists, six digs and four blocks.
