MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY CROSS COUNTRY HONORS

Florida A&M sophomore Elias Chesire and Morgan State sophomore Ishakeema Swain were selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference’s (MEAC) Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Athletes of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday.

Chesire (So., Eldoret, Kenya) was second overall at the Florida State Invitational 8K course, finishing with a time of 25:06.10 to aid the Rattlers finish second out of 16 teams. He also finished 11th overall the following day at Florida A&M’s Bobby Lang Invitational, finishing the 8K course in 32:18.61 and helping the Rattlers finish first out of two teams.

Swain (So., Neptune, N.J.) finished the Delaware State Hornet Invitational 5K in 18:37.98 and placed first overall, leading the Lady Bears to a second-place finish out of four teams.

Other Top Performers:

Amber Brooks (NCCU) was third at the Hagan Stone Cross Country Classic 5K in 19:17.19. She paced the Lady Eagles to a sixth place finish out of 13 teams.

Simone Durden (FAMU) guided the Lady Rattlers to a 10th place finish out of 18 teams at the Florida State Invitational 5K course. She finished 35th overall with a time of 23:31.40.

Sherril McFarlane (SCSU) crossed the Augusta State University Jaguar Invitational 6K finish line in 25:50.81 to finish 12th overall. Her efforts led the Lady Bulldogs to a fifth-place finish out of nine teams.

Terrell Oliver (DSU) competed at the Delaware State Hornet Invitational 8K in 29:12.17 for a ninth-place individual finish.

Dashera Richardson (DSU) led the Lady Hornets to a first place finish out of four teams on the Delaware State Hornet Invitational 5K course, finishing second overall with a time of 18:40.36.

Christian Smooth (MSU) was second overall at the Delaware State Hornet Invitational 8K with a time of 27:32:33. As a team, the Bears finished in second place out of five teams.

Aaron Worthy, Jr. (SCSU) ran a time of 28:19.87 on the Augusta State University Jaguar Invitational 8K course to finish 19th overall, helping the Bulldogs finish seventh out of 11 teams.
