MEAC Announces Volleyball Weekly Honors

South Carolina State junior Desire Waller was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's (MEAC) Volleyball Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.  Florida A&M's Yeisha Arcia earned Rookie of the Week accolades.

Waller (6-1, Jr., OH, Houston, Texas) averaged 20.5 kills and 11.5 digs to aid the Lady Bulldogs to a 1-1 mark in conference play last week. Waller recorded a double-double of 28 kills and 20 digs in a 3-2 conference win against Bethune-Cookman. She followed that outing with 13 kills and three digs against Florida A&M.  For the week, Waller tallied a .303 hitting percentage and added two aces and two blocks.


Arcia (5-11, Fr., OH, San Juan, Puerto Rico) averaged a .396 hitting percentage in two matches to lead the Rattlers to a 2-0 record in MEAC play. Arcia recorded 10 kills on 18 attacks (.444) with two digs in a 3-0 win over Savannah State. Against South Carolina State, she totaled a season-high 16 kills with three digs, one ace and three blocks.


Other Top Performers:

Skyler Arbuckle (Howard) recorded 12 kills on 23 attacks for a .348 hitting percentage in a five-set loss to Maryland Eastern Shore.

Charlotte Armstead (NSU) totaled 21 kills and three blocks to aid the Spartans to a 1-1 mark last week.

Christine Anthony (NCCU) recorded 15 kills and a team-high 15 digs against North Carolina A&T.

Dayana Arrufat Rondon (NCCU) posted a career-high 23 kills and 11 digs in a five-set victory against North Carolina A&T.

Edarkis Branch (DSU) totaled 18 kills, 11 digs and four blocks to aid the Hornets to a 1-1 mark last week.

Andrea Evans (NCAT) combined for a total of 14 kills, 12 blocks and three digs in two matches for the Aggies.

Krysta Gardner (B-CU) became the second player in school history to reach 1,000 kills with 21 in a loss to South Carolina State.

Katherine Huanec (FAMU) recorded 18 kills on 24 attempts for a .750 hitting percentage in a conference win against Savannah State.

Monica Lowe (B-CU) averaged 6.8 assists per set in three matches for the Lady Wildcats.

Darcy Moore (NSU) totaled 43 assists in two Spartan matches.

Ariel Richard (CSU) led the Eagles to a 1-1 week with 24 kills, 12 digs and two assists.

Brooke Stamnes (NCAT) led the Aggies in kills in two matches with 12 against Wofford and 18 in a five set loss to North Carolina Central.

Maline Vaitai (UMES) earned a double-double of 19 kills and 13 digs in a 3-2 win against Howard.

Melanie Williams (SCSU) posted a season and game-high 61 assists and 15 digs against Bethune-Cookman.
