NSU Gets Back on Track with 3-0 Win over Morgan State
BALTIMORE- Norfolk State got back on track and snapped an 11-match losing streak in a 3-0 victory over the Morgan State volleyball team Sunday afternoon at Hill Field House.
For the eighth straight match, senior Charlotte Armstead led the Spartan in kills, tallying 10 on just 14 swings as NSU improved to 3-16 overall, 1-1 in MEAC play. The Bears remained winless on the season at 0-15 overall, 0-3 in the conference, after falling to the Spartans, 25-12, 25-15, 25-17.
Two days after giving up numerous points via attack errors to Coppin State in a 3-0 loss, the Spartans hit a much better .275 on the afternoon and limited the Bears to a -.015 attack percentage. NSU had 11 service errors but had a 10-0 advantage over Morgan State in service aces.
Senior Beatriz Ferreira had five of those aces, while junior Coralie Jarema had eight kills and five digs. Redshirt sophomore Noelle Eagles led all players with seven digs.
Freshman Darcy Moore had 22 assists on the day, and sophomore Adriana Ramos totaled five digs and three service aces.
Arianna Hayden had six kills to lead the Bears.

Hampton Hands Eagles First MEAC Loss
BALTIMORE -- Freshman Chelsee Sauni had 35 assists, 10 digs and a service ace, but Hampton handed Coppin State its first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference loss of the season with a 20-25, 25-15, 25-13, 25-22 victory on Sunday in the Physical Education Complex.
The Eagles, who dropped to 6-8 overall and 2-1 in the MEAC, were attempting to begin the conference season with three straight victories for only the second time in school history, but Hampton put a halt to the CSU winning streak.
The Pirates, who improved to 11-10 overall and 2-0 in the MEAC, were led by Vendula Strakova who had 19 kills, nine digs, three blocks and three service aces. Krista Kraskura added a double-double with 12 kills and 15 digs for Hampton.
Coppin State also received 14 kills and six digs from Ariel Richard and 11 kills and three blocks from Bianca Chatman.
Denali Sturgeon and Gabrielle Otero each had 14 digs as three Coppin State players reached double figures in digs.

Florida A&M Sweeps South Carolina State, 3-0
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Sept. 30) - Florida A&M remains unbeaten in conference play as the Lady Rattlers defeated South Carolina State, 3-0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-15), Sunday evening at the Al Lawson Center.
FAMU (4-8, 2-0 MEAC) had a pair of Lady Rattlers to finish in double-digit kills as Yeisha Arcia finished with a match-high 16 kills, followed by Pamela Barrera with 10. Diana Gonzales led the Lady Rattlers in assists with 25, while Karol Marquez led the team in digs with 10.
SCSU (4-8, 1-1) was led by Desire Waller with 13 kills, while Maya Bell finished with six. Melanie Williams led the Lady Bulldogs in assists with 21, while Elizabeth Webb led the SCSU in digs with 13.

Howard Pushes Maryland Eastern Shore to Five Set Battle
WASHINGTON, D.C. Howard concluded its first MEAC weekend with a five-set loss to Maryland Eastern Shore on Sunday.
During Sunday action, HU held UMES, who are the 2011 MEAC defending champion, to a two-set deficit before UMES secured the next three sets for 18-25, 23-25, 25-19, 25-20, 15-8 match win.
Bison sophomore Skyler Arbuckle guided the offense with 12 kills with four errors on 23 attempts, while fellow classmates Assata Conway and Stephanie Shultis tallied seven kills apiece. Shultis circulated a team-high 21 assists, as senior Jasmine King allocated 14 assists. Sophomore Alexis Skinner dominated the defensive portion of the contest and gathered 15 digs, while sophomore Destinee Harrison controlled the net with eight block assists.
Collectively, the mighty blue and white notched 40 kills with 20 errors on 132 attempts, 37 assists, three service aces, 48 digs and 11 team blocks.
Howard drops to 0-11 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
