MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY BASKETBALL HONORS

 

NORFOLK, Va.,  - Hampton's Mike Tuitt was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.  Simuel Frazier of Howard was named Rookie of the Week while Amin Stevens of Florida A&M earned Defensive Player of the Week accolades.

Tuitt (G, 6-3, 175, Sr., Bronx, N.Y.) scored 20 points off the bench and made some key free-throws in the final seconds of the game to give the Pirates a 57-55 victory over Howard.  He connected on 6-of-11 shots and was 8-of-10 from the charity stripe.  He also added five rebounds, five assists and two steals in 32 minutes of play.


Frazier (G, 5-11, 175, Fr., Norfolk, Va.) averaged 11.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.0 steals in conference games last week against Coppin State and Hampton. He hauled down a career-high eight rebounds with 11 points and four assists against Hampton. 

Stevens (F, 6-6, 215, Jr. Roswell, Ga.) totaled 17 rebounds, six blocks and four steals to help the Rattlers' finish 1-1 last week.  Stevens recorded a double-double against N.C. Central with 12 boards along with 15 points.  He also added three steals and two blocks in the win.   In a non-conference matchup against Ball State, Stevens blocked four shots and grabbed five rebounds with one steal. 

Other Top Performances

Danny Agbelese (Hampton) hauled down 11 rebounds to go along with three blocks in a 57-55 win over Howard.

Ameer Ali (MSU) averaged 20.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and two steals to help the Bears finish 1-1 last week.

Glenn Andrews (Howard) averaged 24.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists in a pair of conference games last week.

Akeem Ellis (CSU) led the Eagles with 28 points, five rebounds, two assists, two blocks and one steal in a 83-77 win over Howard.

Kevin Dukes (B-CU) scored 23 points with four rebounds and hit the game winning 3-pointer in the Wildcats' 59-56 victory over N.C. A&T. 

Garrius Holloman (B-CU) totaled 18 points and 14 rebounds in two games last week for the Wildcats. 

Pina Guillaume (UMES) fell one-point shy of a double-double with nine points and 12 rebounds against Norfolk State.

Ricky Johnson (B-CU) scored 17 points, shooting 5-of-8 from long range, with one rebound and one assist against Auburn.

Reggie Lewis (FAMU) scored 22 points and hit a season-high six 3-pointers in a 62-60 win over N.C. Central.

Arnold Louis (SSU) posted a double-double of 24 points and 17 rebounds with four assists in a win over Coppin State.

Kyle O'Quinn (NSU) tied a season high with six blocked shots in addition to seven rebounds and 18 points in a win over Maryland Eastern Shore.

Kevin Thompson (MSU) posted 17 points, six rebounds, three assists and one block in a 73-68 victory over South Carolina State.

Pendarvis Williams (NSU) shot 70 percent from the field en route to a 18 points, five rebound performance in a 78-72 victory over Maryland Eastern Shore.
