DOVER, Del. - With their on-court leader sitting on the bench with concussion-like symptoms, the Delaware State University women's basketball team succumbed to a hot-shooting Fordham team, 63-48, to wrap up non-conference play Wednesday evening at Memorial Hall.
Sophomore Deanna Harmon (Owings Mills, Md.), a team captain who leads the team in minutes (35.9), Assists (2.8) and steals (2.4), sat out her first career game since middle school.
Redshirt freshman Tierra Hawkins (Clinton, Md.) and true freshman Chelsea Dukes (Baltimore, Md.) lead the Lady Hornets with 14 points each. Hawkins shot 7-for-11 from the field and also collected a team-high seven rebounds in the loss.
Fordham's Abigail Corning led all scorers with 19 points on 7-of-11 from the field, including 4-for-7 from behind the arc. Charlotte Stoddart posted a game-high 10 rebounds in the Rams' win.
The loss moves DSU to 3-12 on the season and is their 12th loss in the past 13 games while Fordham stops a two-game losing streak and moves to 9-6 on the year.
