SC- Howard snapped an eight-game losing streak in an
82-76 win over South Carolina State in a Mid-Eastern Athletic
Conference men’s game.
The
Bison had five players in double figures with freshman guard Brandon
Ford leading the way with 14 points and four rebounds, while
sophomore Tre Lee chipped in 13. Red-shirt junior guard Calvin
Thompson added 11 and forward's Prince Okoroh and Mike Phillips each
added 10 points in the victory.
SC
State (4-17, 0-8 in the MEAC), which dropped its 15th straight,(5-17,
2-7 in the MEAC) got a game-high 31 points from Brandon Riley, 14
from Omar Sanders and 10 from Khalif Toombs.

Defense Leads Eagles To Victory Over Hawks
DURHAM,
N.C. – It was defense that propelled North
Carolina Central University to its fourth MEAC win of the season as
the Eagles forced the University of Maryland Eastern Shore into 21
turnovers, tying a season high and stormed out to a 43-12 halftime
lead to coast to the 77-46 win on Monday night in McDougald-McLendon
Gym.
Three
student-athletes for NCCU registered double-figures in the win led by
senior Dominique Sutton (Durham, N.C.) who nearly recorded his
seventh double-double with a game-high 18 points, nine rebounds and
two ferocious blocks. Ray Willis (Atlanta, Ga.) ended the night with
16 points that included a season-high 4-for-7 from three-point range.
For
the Hawks, Tyler
Hines finished
with a team-high 13 points and grabbed six rebounds while shooting
5-of-5 (1.000) from the field. He was an impressive 3-of-4 (.750)
from the free-throw line.Hillary
Haley posted
a double-double performance with 11 points and 11 rebounds for UMES.

Late Free Throws Lift Pirates Past Morgan State
HAMPTON,
Va. –
Senior guard Christopher
Tolson was
a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe in the second half, but his
final four secured the Hampton University men’s basketball team’s
68-63 win over Morgan State Monday night at the HU Convocation
Center.
Tolson (Laurel, Md.), who scored 13 of his
team-high 19 points in the second half, was 3-for-6 from the floor in
the final 20 minutes for the Pirates, while senior guard Darrion
Pellum scored 15 points.
Sophomore
center David
Bruce (Linden,
N.J.) added 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
Junior
forward Wesley
Dunning
came up huge for Hampton on the boards, grabbing a game- and
career-high 10 rebounds, while also dropping nine points with four
assists and four steals.
Morgan
State (5-14, 3-5 MEAC) shot 30 percent (19-for-63) from the floor
behind DeWayne Jackson, who scored a game-high 24 points for the
Bears. Brooks added 18 points.

Cools Off, Loses To DSU
GREENSBORO
- The North Carolina A&T men's basketball team went from one end
of the basketball spectrum to the other. Delaware State held A&T
without a field goal over the final 13 minutes of the game to earn a
56-41 win at Corbett Sports Center on Monday.
Adrian
Powell scored in double figures for the sixth straight game as he
finished with 17 points and eight rebounds on 6-for-12 shooting.
Those were perhaps the only positive numbers from the game.
Tahj
Tate led three Delaware State players in double figures with 15
points. Tyshawn Bell came off the bench to add 12 points on four
three-point field goals, while Casey Walker chipped in 10 for the
Hornets.
DSU
had 12 blocks in the contest, including five by Kendall Gray and
four by Marques Oliver. The Hornets led the MEAC in blocks at
6.9 per game entering the contest, fourth among all NCAA Division I
teams.

Harper,
Eagles Knock Spartans From Ranks of Unbeaten
NORFOLK,
Va. -- Michael
Harper led four players in double-figure scoring with 20
points and Coppin State knocked Norfolk State from the ranks of the
unbeaten with an 87-82 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference victory over
the Spartans on Monday in Echols Hall.
The
Eagles also received 16 points from Tony
Gallo, while Akeem
Ellis had 14 and Logan
Wiens scored 12.
After
not scoring in the first half, O’Quinn finished with a season-high
27 points and 18 rebounds, one shy of his career. He was 11-of-14
from the floor and 5-of-5 from the line.
