In the North Carolina Central University women's tennis season opener in Charlotte, N.C., senior Cameron Chatman attained her first win of the season as the Lady Eagles dropped a 6-1 decision to the 49ers of UNC Charlotte on Sunday, Jan. 29.
Chatman was the lone Lady Eagle with a win, seized a 7-5, 7-5 victory over 49ers' Andrea Rivera in the No. 2 singles position.
NCCU junior Olesya Palko competed as the No. 1 singles player, where she suffered a 6-2, 7-5 loss to UNC-C's Alexandra Zinn.
Lady Eagle newcomers Ekaterina Nekrasova, Rebecca Wood and Julia Aguilar made their debut in maroon and gray in the away contest. Nekrasova lost to Natsuko Takayanagi (6-3, 6-4), Wood fell to Lisa Grosselius (6-2, 6-2) and Iveta Guneva defeated Aguilar (6-0, 6-0).
